Medina duo has top 10 scores at state tourney

Melanie Green, who will be a sophomore at Medina High this fall, finished in a tie for the fifth best score at the New York State Girls Junior Amateur Championships which concluded today at Seven Oakes Country Club in Hamilton.

Green finished with a two day total of 156 to end up 11 shots back of champion Bailey Shoemaker of Central New York. She shot 83 today after firing a round of 73 on Tuesday which had her in second place.

Green recently captured the Western New York PGA Junior championship. During the spring high school season she won the Section VI championship and then placed second at the state championships.

Ian Wagner, who will also be a sophomore at Medina High this fall, finished in a tie for the eighth best score (153) in the NYS Boys Junior Amateur championships. Finishing 8 shots off the pace, he shot 78 today after firing an opening round of 75 on Tuesday.
