Medina Colts rally to edge Albion
ALBION – Coming from behind, the Medina Colts edged past Albion 14-12 Saturday to improve to 8-1 in the Mini Division of the Niagara Orleams Football Association.
Trailing 12-7 at the half, the Colts rallied into the lead in the third quarter on a touchdown run and extra point carry by Iverson Poole.
Aiden Pitts scored a touchdown and an extra point for the Colts in the first half.
Poole finished with a total of 116 yards, Hayden Woodroe 56, Pitts 46 and Xander Payne 38. Payne also completed an 18 yard pass to Jarin Rhim to set up the Colts first touchdown.
Defensively, Chris Johnson had 7 tackles and Poole 3.
Jacob Hughson and Jahmeek Riley scored touchdowns in the first half for Albion on runs of 5 and 44 yards respectively.
Riley finished with 57 yards, Amari Jones 32, Chris Porter 13 and Hughson 9.
On defense, Porter had 15 tackles, Amari Jones 11, Jabari Johnson 7, Hughson 5, Bryden McMurray, Byrce Froman, Javon Jones and Luqman Cornick 4.
JV Division
Albion 28, Medina 7
Touchdown runs of 32 yards by Brilliance Johnson, 15 by Rylend Callicutt, 7 by DeShawn Grace and 1 by Deyonci Farley sparked Albion past the Medina Broncos 28-7.
Johnson had a total of 193 yards, Farley 69, Grace 46 and Callicut 21.
Defensively, Farley made 6 tackles, Callicutt and Greg Thompson 5 and Mehkyron Drisdom, Johnson and Kyle Woolston 3. Callicutt also had a safety.
Bobby Geiger scored the Broncos lone touchdown and Brian Fry added the extra point.
Albion is now 8-1 and Medina 3-6.
Varsity Division
Albion 25, Medina 19
Antonio Vallejo ran for two touchdowns on carries of 2 and 30 yards and also caught a 90 yard touchdown pass from Nate Moore to lead the way for Albion. Isaiah Callicutt also had a 1 yard TD run.
Vallejo had 91 yards rushing and Marc Green 53.
Moore added 39 yard receiving, Green 31 and Vincent Zona 12.
On defense, Green and Vallejo each had 10 tackles, Jayah Osby 9, Devin Olles 7, Callicutt 6, Zona 4 and Colton Tuttle 3. Tuttle, Farley and Vallejo all had sacks and Osby an interception.
No Medina scorers were reported.
Albion and Medina are now both at 5-4.
