Medina Colts, Albion JV squads win playoff semis

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Iverson Poole (23) scored the game’s lone touchdown as the Medina Colts nipped Elba-Oakfield 6-0 at Vets Park Saturday in the Niagara Orleans Football Association Mini Division playoff semifinals.

The top seeded Medina Colts and Albion JV teams both scored victories at Vets Park Saturday in the semifinal round of the Niagara Orleans Football Association playoffs.

The Medina Colts nipped Elba-Oakfield 6-0 in the Mini Division while the Albion JV’s bested Batavia 20-6 in the JV Division.

The Medina Colts will next face Akron for the Mini Division playoff title at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roy-Hart. The Albion JV squad will then take on Newfane for the JV title at noon Saturday at Roy-Hart.

Medina Colts 6, Elba-Oakfield 0
Iverson Poole scored on a 3 yard touchdown run in the third quarter to provide the margin of victory in the Medina Colts narrow win over Elba-Oakfield. Poole carried the ball 40 times for 195 yards on the day.

In registering the shut out the Colts defense had Chris Johnson with 10 tackles and Ricky Lilly Jr. with four. Johnson and Lilly also both had sacks. Malik Baity chipped in with a forced fumble and Cooper Manning a fumble recovery.

The Colts improve to 10-1.

Albion JV 20, Batavia 6
Touchdown runs of 45 yards by DeShawn Grace, 12 by Rylend Callicutt and 11 by Briliance Johnson led the Albion JV squad past Batavia. Thomas Furmanski also hooked up with Anthony Freeman for a two-point conversion pass completion.

Johnson finished with 57 yards rushing, Grace 45, Deyonci Farley 41, Callicutt 28 and Kevin Hillman 18. Callicutt and Hillman also hooked up for a 28 yard pass completion.

Defensively, Farley had 6 tackles, Mehkyron Drisdom 5, Callicutt 4 and Hillman and James Denancourt 3. Callicutt and Kyle Woolston both had sacks and Farley and Freeman had fumble recoveries.

The Albion JV squad is now 10-1 on the season.

Senior Division

Akron 42, Albion 12
Antonio Vallejo scored both touchdowns for Albion on runs off 60 and 40 yards in the 42-12 semifinal loss to top seeded Akron.
