Medina cagers post win over CSAT

Maintaining sole possession of first place Medina downed visiting CSAT 69-60 this evening to stay unbeaten at 6-0 in Niagara-Orleans League action.

Jalin Cooper and Tyler Ames both scored 19 points and Daryl Haynes 17 to spearhead the attack for Medina.

Justin Morgan added 4, Johnny Salone and Mason Lewis 3 and Jared Zinkievich and Ronnie Koonce 2 for the Mustangs.

Shaun Wilson scored 19 and Myron Banks 15 for CSAT which slips to 2-4.

Medina jumped out to a 14-8 first period lead as Haynes scored 6 and Ames 4.

The Mustangs maintained a narrow 32-30 advantage at the half as Ames and Haynes both netted 6 in the second period.

CSAT briefly rallied into the lead twice early in the third period, first at 34-32 on a layup by Wilson, and then at 37-36 on a bucket by Jahleel Burks.

However, the Mustangs answered the challenge with a key 6-0 run highlighted by a layup by Cooper and a three by Morgan, to regain the lead for good at 42-37.

Cooper erupted for a total of 12 points in the period which finished with Medina on top by seven at 55-48.

The Mustangs quickly built the advantage to 12, 60-48, at the outset of the final period after a free throw and layup by Ames and two free throws by Salone.

CSAT did pull back to within seven, 65-58, with just under two minutes to go but could get no closer.

The Mustangs put a lock on the win on a pair of free throws by Cooper and a layup by Ames, who had a total of 6 points in the stanza.
