Medina boys swim team has new coach

With new coach Aaron Moessinger at the helm, the Medina boys swim squad is prepping for the Nov. 25 non league season opener at Alexander.

Mary Dooley returns to guide the Medina girls squad which also opens the season at Alexander on Nov. 25.

“I’m excited about the opportunity,” Moessinger said. “We’re coming along and we’re looking to be competitive.”

Leading the Seahorses are senior Patrick Roberts, juniors Austin Brown, Austin Heil, Ian McAnn and sophomore Chase Pecoraro.

The Seahorses underclassmen dominated roster also includes seniors Phil Schicker, Sam Simms and James Soha; juniors Matt Cochrane, Nick Dieter and Derek Donley; freshmen Kevin Capstick, Kristian Snyder and Powell Stephens and eighth graders Dan Heil and Mason Pecoraro.

Seniors Emilee Austin, Val Bonadonna, Kelsey Evoy, Lydsey Hill, Jayne Kuhn, Sam Wendling and McKenzie Wright lead the girls squad.

The Seahorses roster also includes juniors Amanda McCauley, Krista Nellist and Addison Zavitz; sophomores Haylee Cogovan, Emma Gardner and Andrea Toussant; freshmen Abby Griffin, Abby Osborse Jones, Kyla Leno and Abby Smith; eighth grader Alissa Beyer and seventh grader Cora Payne.

“We’ve got a good group, a good base,” said Dooley who also pointed to the importance of the return of the modified level to the swim program. “It’s really exciting to have the modified back. That’s really an important part of the program.”

The Seahorses open the Niagara-Orleans League season at Barker on Dec. 10.
