Medina bests Albion in cross-country opener

Medina downed Albion in the season opening Niagara-Orleans League cross-country meet this afternoon at Newfane.

The Mustangs won the boys meet 17-42 and the girls competition 24-34.

The defending champion Newfane teams both scored a doubleheader sweep on the day. The Newfane boys defeated Medina 19-44 and Albion 15-50 while the girls squad topped Medina 15-50 and Albion 17-46.

The individual winners both came from Newfane in Nathan Moran and Kylie Boeman. Lydia Chunco and Kat Ersing completed a 1-2-3 sweep for the Lady Pamthers.

Medina’s Cameron Castenon placed second overall. The Mustangs next three finishers were Isaac Pace, Arian Cayea and Alwyn Cayea.

Albion’s Alanna Holman finished fourth overall while the top two finishers for the Medina girls were Corinne Hill and Hannah Heil.

In another N-O opener, Akron swept Roy-Hart winning the boys race 28-29 and the girls 19-42.

Roy-Hart’s Ozzy Moore won the boys race while Akron’s Lauren Wagner took the girls race with Roy-Hart’s Anna Rickard second.

Barker also edged past Wilson winning the boys meet 27-30 and the girls competition 26-29.

Wilson’s John Moote won the boys race as Barker’s Peter DiLorenzo was second.

The Barker duo of Haleigh Mason and Lydia Samson finished 1-2 in the girls race.
