Medina and Kendall players earn All State baseball squad honors

Having earned both league and sectional championships Medina and Kendall have now both placed multiple players on the All State baseball squad which  was announced this week by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Medina, which captured both the Niagara-Orleans League and Section VI Class B championships is represented on the Class B All State team by the trio of pitchers Brody Fry and Preston Woodworth and shortstop Aidan Papaj.

Fry was named to the Class B first team, Papaj the second team and Woodworth the fourth team.

Fry posted a 9-1 record on the mound with 108 strikeouts and a 0.33 earned run average.

Woodworth went 10-0 with 100 strikeouts and a 0.45 era.

At the plate, Papaj hit .394 with 4 doubles, 2 triples 1 home run and 21 RBIs. Fry hit .304 with 6 doubles, 1 triple and 23 RBIS. Woodworth hit .297 with 9 double, 1 triple, 1 home run and 33 RBIs.

Kendall, which claimed both the Genesee Region League and Section V Class C titles, has placed the battery of catcher Colby Hughes and pitcher Gavin Braun on the Class C All State team.

Hughes was named to the Class C second team and Braun to the third team.

Hughes hit .559 with 11 doubles and defensively threw out 31 percent of the runners who tried to steal on him.

Braun registered 61 strikeouts and had a 1.24 earned run average.

Fry, Hughes and Braun were all seniors this past spring while Woodworth and Papaj were sophomores.
