Medina and Albion netters score wins
Close sets and matches were the rule as defending champion Medina downed visiting Newfane 4-1 1/2 this afternoon in Niagara-Orleans League tennis action.
Three set wins by Ray Paull at second singles, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 over James Liebring, and at first doubles by the duo of Andrew Houseman and Kody Leno, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 over Matt Pusateri and Kaitlyn Klatt, highlighted Medina’s victory.
The Mustangs also got wins by Toby Kiebala at third singles, 7-5, 6-2 over Zach Lundy, and at second doubles by Haylee Seefeldt and Mark Barcena, 6-3, 6-4 over Alexa Littman and Erica Flagler.
Newfane got wins from Danny Dy at first singles, 6-4, 7-6 over Andrew Fuller, and at third doubles as Noah Everett and Ben Pusateri downed Jacob Houseman and Sophia Cardone 6-1, 6-1.
Medina is now 2-0 and Newfane 1-3.
Albion 4 1/2, Barker 1
Regaining the .500 mark at 2-2, Albion bested Barker 4 1/2-1
Victories at the first two singles matches by Matthew Kovaleski and Victor Benjovsky led the way for Albion.
The Purple Eagles also got wins from the doubles teams of Chase Froman-Nate Smith, Hailey Bader-Carson Bader and Josh Riley-Matt Rowcliffe.
Barker is now 0-2.
Akron 3, Roy-Hart 2 1/2
Akron (2-0) nipped Roy-Hart (2-1) in the other N-O match.
Singles wins by the trio of Nathan Chubb, Brandon Meeks and Will Chubb earned Akron the key early season win over Roy-Hart.
Roy-Hart swept the three doubles matches with wins by the duos of Cameron VanBuron-Evan Birkemeier, Noah Kindron-Mason Collins and Kayla Hagen-Jordyn Bobzein.
