Medina, Albion netters post wins

Defending champion Medina blanked visiting Newfane 5.5-0 this afternoon to stay unbeaten at 3-0 in Niagara-Orleans League tennis competition.

Albion boosted its N-O record to 4-1 with a 4.5-1 victory over visiting Akron.

In sweeping the singles matches Medina had Ben Howell defeat Andy Swift 6-0,6-3; Kristian Snyder blank Blake Wilson 6-0, 6-0 and Nate Pace shutout Jeff Hahn 6-0, 6-0.

In the doubles wins for the Mustangs, Brian Bogan and Tristan Sanders defeated Mike Lekanta and Ethan Harpst 6-1, 6-1; Carson Zygoda and Nick Dieter downed Kasey Gregory and Laura Gagnon 6-2, 6-2 and Tom Horgan and Austin Owens topped Bailey Cordova and Whitney Atkins 6-4, 6-2.

The loss drops Newfane to 1-3.

Albion was led by wins at first singles by Andrew Burroughs over Jacob Borth 6-2, 6-4 and at third singles by Josh Metzler over Tyler Kelly 6-0, 6-2.

The Purple Eagles swept the doubles matches as Ben Kirby and Kyler McQuillan outlasted Nathan Chubb and Brandon Meeks 6-1, 4-6, 6-2; Chris Tabor and Monica Benjovsky downed Dan Bilecki and Jacob Myer 6-4, 7-6 and Dan Beam and Michael Stilwell bested Morgan Wegner and Erica Papke 6-1, 6-3.

Ryan Meeks downed Dyer Benjovsky 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 at second singles for Akron which slips to 1-4.

In one other N-O match, Barker improved to 4-2 by edging Roy-Hart 3-2.5 on wins by the singles trio of Sean Benoit, Tristan Payne and Brian Hefferon.
