Medina, Albion have sectional track champs

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Albion’s Chanyce Powell and Medina’s Jalin Cooper both scored victories at the Section VI track championships held this weekend at Jamestown.

Medina junior Jalin Cooper successfully defended his titles in both the 100 and 200 at the Section VI D2 (small schools) track championships held this weekend at Jamestown.

Cooper repeated as the 100 meter champion with a time of :10.9 and the 200 meter champ with a time of :22.11. He will compete at the state meet next weekend at Binghamton. Last year he placed sixth in the 100 at the state meet.

Albion senior Chanyce Powell successfully defended her Section VI D2 title in the Long Jump with a winning leap of 17-8 3/4. She also placed third in the Triple Jump at 35-11 1/2.

Medina also had Martha Gardner place third in the Steeplechase, fourth in the 800 and fifth in the 1500 while Dan Heil took fifth in the 1600.

Albion also had Lamar Chambers place third in the 400 Hurdles and Nate Moore take fourth in the Long Jump.

Wilson had a pair of champions as Mark Coder won the Pole Vault (12-6) and Trey Rees took the 800 (1:56.39) while Newfane’s Andrew Boudeman placed second in the Triple Jump.

For Roy-Hart, Kali Scharping placed fifth in the High Jump with a Roy-Hart school record effort of 5-1 and Kayleigh Kuzma took sixth in the 400 Hurdles.
