Medina, Albion girls score N-O victories

Medina defeated visiting Newfane 47-30 and Albion downed host Akron 47-35 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball action this evening.

Wilson bested Barker 57-31 in the other N-O contest.

Camri King scored a game high 24 points and Sarah Cochrane a season high 12 to lead the way for Medina as Kharise Johnson added 5, Jarielys Flores-Medina 4, and Maddie Williams 2.

Megan Knoll and Julia Dumais each scored 6 for Newfane.

“Defensively we played really well,” said Medina Coach Larry Lash.

Medina jumped out to a 12-6 first quarter lead as King and Cochrane both had a pair of baskets.

The Mustangs went on to increase their advantage to 22-12 at the half and to 31-14 at the three-quarter mark. Cochrane netted 5 in the third period.

King then scored 12 in the final stanza to help close out the Mustangs win.

Medina is now 2-2 and Newfane 1-1 in N-O action.

Albion 47, Akron 35
Leading 18-11 at the half, Albion used a big 20 point third period to extend its advantage to 38-23 and key the 47-35 road win over Akron.

Brylie Hapeman scored 15 of her game high 21 points in the third period to set the pace for Albion.

Lexi Wolck and Paige Derisley both had 8 on the evening for Albion which is now 3-0 in the league.

Elise Leeds scored 14 and Helena Hill 11 for Akron which slips to 1-2.

Wilson 57, Barker 31
Skylar Munnikhuysen had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 8 steals to lead Wilson (4-0) to a 57-31 win over Baker (0-3).

Izzy Dinse also had 8 points and 12 rebounds and Sarah Lewis 14 rebounds for Wilson which led 36-14 at the half.
