Medina, Albion girls post N-O wins

Medina put together a big fourth quarter rally to defeat visiting Barker 40-34 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game.

In other N-O action, Albion defeated host Roy-Hart 51-39, Newfane nipped Akron 34-31 and defending champion Wilson downed CSAT 37-22.

Trailing 28-25 at the three-quarter mark, Medina rallied to outscore Barker 15-6 in the decisive final period to claim the win.

Molley Gross scored 5, Je’ne Brown 4 and Maddie Winters, Holly Heil and Maddie Winters 2 each to key the Mustangs clutch rally.

Gross finished with a total of 13 points, Brown 9, Winters 8, Heil 6 and Kayla Cuadra and Williams 2 each. Gross also grabbed off 11 rebounds, Winters 10 and Heil 7.

Caitlyn Mason led Barker with 16 as Haley Brown added 8, Lindsey Williams 7 and Lydia Dewart 3.

Barker led 8-6 after one quarter but Medina rallied back into a 17-17 half-time deadlock.

Medina and Barker are now both 1-1 in N-O action.

Albion 51, Roy-Hart 39
Chanyce Powell poured in a game high 20 points and grabbed off 15 rebounds to lead Albion past Roy-Hart 51-39.

Caitlynn Snook and Janae Doty both added 6 for the Purple Eagles as Emily Blanchard, Nicole Eldred and Sierra Chudy had 5 and Natalie DiCureia 4. Snook also grabbed off 10 rebounds.

Reilly Albee scored 14 and Ellie Todd 10 to pace Roy-Hart.

Leading by a narrow 10-8 margin after one quarter, Albion used a 13-4 second period scoring surge to open up a 23-12 advantage at the half. Powell scored 5 and Doty 4 during that stretch as Snook and Chudy each chipped in with a basket.

Albion maintained a 37-28 advantage at the three-quarter mark.

Albion is now 1-1 and Roy-Hart 0-2 in N-O action.

Wilson 37, CSAT 22
Leading by a narrow 13-12 margin at the half, Wilson used an 11-1 scoring burst to open the third period to key a 37-22 win over CSAT.

Kayla Neumann had 11 points and 7 steals and Rachel Senek 9 points, 5 steals and 5 assists to lead the way for Wilson. Shea Munnikhuysen and Serina Jaeger also each grabbed off 10 rebounds.

Newfane 34, Akron 31
Olivia Littman scored 13 and Emily Foltz 10 to lead the way for Newfane with led by only 19-17 at the half.
