Medina, Albion earn splits in N-O openers
Medina earned a split with visiting Newfane this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans League swim season opener. The Seahorses won the boys meet 102-67 while the defending champion Lady Panthers posted a 106-63 victory.
August Pietrafesa was a double winner for the Medina boys in the 100 Free and 200 Free as Ray Paull added a win in the 100 Breaststroke.
Pietrafesa also teamed up with Mason Pecoraro, Hunter Heil and Dan Heil to win the 200 Free Relay and with Dan Heil, Jack Hill and Paull to take the 400 Free Relay. Hunter Heil, Paull, Hill and Pecoraro also combined to win the 200 Medley Relay.
Zach Lundy doubled in the 50 Free and 100 Back and Thomas Schultz in the 100 Butterfly and 500 Free for Newfane which also had Nick Connolly take the 200 Individual Medley.
Lauren Gaughran doubled in the 200 Free and 500 Free and Lauren Seymour in the Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke for the Newfane girls as Annemarie Aber took the 100 Butterfly and Erin Harrington the 100 Breaststroke.
The Lady Panthers also swept the three relays as Seymour, Harrington, Laura Dixon and Vanessa Burkard took the 200 Medley; Burkard, Aber, Gaughran and Meghan Mietlicki the 200 Free and Dixon, Aber, Mietlicki and Gaughran the 400 Free.
Hannah Heil doubled for Medina in the 50 Free and 100 Free.
The Albion boys likewise earned a key 95-75 victory at Barker. Thomas Furmanski won the 100 Backstroke, Matt Kovaleski the 100 Breaststroke and Sam Sanchez the 100 Butterfly.
Collin Webb doubled in the 50 Free and 100 Free and Adam Wagner in the 200 Free and 500 Free for Barker.
Barker earned a split by taking the girls meet 98-69 as Sara Gendrue doubled in the 50 Free and 100 Free and Natalie Menz in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Freestyle.
Rylie Lear won both the 200 Free and 500 Free and Michaela Pantano the 100 Butterfly for Albion.
In the other opener, Akron swept a pair of narrow wins over visiting Roy-Hart taking the boys meet 87-83 and the girls 86-84.
Andrew Buyea doubled in the 200 Free and 500 Free for the Akron boys as did Will Rickard in the 50 Free and 100 Free for Roy-Hart.
Madison Harris won both the 200 Free and 500 Free for the Akron girls while Kayla Hagan doubled in the 100 Free and 100 Breaststroke and Amanda Hill in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Butterfly for Roy-Hart.
