Medina, Albion cagers to host sectional quarterfinal games Friday

After waiting through two preliminary rounds of competition to see who their opponents would be, Medina and Albion are set to host Section VI Class B1 quarterfinal round games at 7 p.m. Friday.

In a pair of matchups between teams with nearly identical records, No. 3 seed Medina (10-9) will host No. 6 Tonawanda (11-9) and No. 4 Albion (10-9) will host No. 5 East Aurora (9-11).

Tonawanda defeated No. 11 Newfane 76-42 and East Aurora downed No. 12 Alden 62-40 in the pre-quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The winners of Friday’s games will advance to the semifinals on March 4 at Buffalo State. The Medina/Tonawanda winner will face the winner of the No. 10 Maryvale vs. No. 2 Depew game. The winner of the Albion/East Aurora game will face the winner of the No. 9 Bennett vs. No. 1 Burgard contest.

Niagara-Orleans League champion No. 2 seed Wilson will also host a Class B2 quarterfinal contest at 7 p.m. Friday against No. 7 Emerson.

In Class C1 on Friday, No. 7 Barker will visit No. 2 Tapestry.

In Section V, No. 5 Kendall will visit No. 4 Dundee in a Class C2 quarterfinal contest. Kendall, which defeated Genesee Region League foe No. 12 Alexander 54-37 in the opening round, is now 15-5 on the season while Dundee is 16-3.

In Section V Class D1 girls quarterfinal action Friday, No. 10 Lyndonville will visit G-R League foe No. 2 Elba at 7 p.m.
