Medina, Albion bow; Barker/Roy-Hart, Holley/Kendall win in local wrestling action

Eight forfeit wins keyed Akron to a 63-18 victory over host Medina this evening in the Niagara-Orleans League wrestling opener.

On the mat, Medina had a trio of quick first period pins by Travis Wiseman (99) in 1:08, Colby Petrie (113) in 1:15 and Joel Cruz-Robb in 1:04.

Akron got pins by Anthony Brandt (132) and Cody Croy (138).

Medina next hosts North Tonawanda in a non league match at 6 pm. Thursday.

Defending N-O champion Newfane got five forfeits in earning a 62-18 win at Albion.

Tim Wells and Cade Aina both had decision wins for Albion.

In the other N-O opener, Barker/Roy-Hart used six pins to key a 42-35 win at Wilson.

Colby Hancock, Tom Alvord Jr., Brent Bachman, Andrew Schafer, Karson Grover and Nick Fazzolari notched the pins for Barker/Roy-Hart.

Kevin Hoover had a pin for Wilson.

Holley/Kendall 45, Brighton 30
Pins by Tristyn Moyer in :45, Jeremy Browe in 1:20, Brandon Stewart in 1:26, Dylan Spellan in 3:10 and Brandon Gardner in 3:58 sparked Holley/Kendall to a 45-30 non league win over visiting Brighton.

Nate Schoonmaker and Erik Balys added decision wins for the Hawks.
