Medina ‘9’ scores win over Depew

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Medina’s Vinny Gray dives safely into second base on a double steal play as the Depew duo of Macklin McGill (0) and Jeff Nawojski (8) try for the tag. The action took place during the Mustangs win over the Wildcats at Vets Park this evening.

Scoring three quick runs in the first inning Medina went on to defeat Depew 9-0 n a non league baseball game at Vets Park this evening.

Preston Woodworth and Carter Woodworth both banged out RBI singles and winning pitcher Brody Fry had an RI sacrifice fly in the opening frame. Back-to-back leadoff singles by Aidan Papaj and Vinny Gray ignited the uprising.

The Mustangs tacked on one run in the second inning on a successful double steal play, one in the third on an error, three in the fourth on a passed ball, an RBI single by Preston Woodworth and a steal of home and one in the sixth on an error. A single by Brady Christiaansen and a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Kroening set up the second inning tally.

Fry pitched the first 5 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 9. Preston Woodworth hurled the final two frames giving up only 1 hit and striking out 6.

Improving to 4-0, Medina will open defense of its Niagara-Orleans League title by hosting Roy-Hart at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
