Medina ‘9’ gets washed out at Wilson

Defending champion Medina’s bid to lock up outright possession of the Niagara-Orleans League baseball title will have to wait a day as the Mustangs game at Wilson this afternoon was wiped out by stormy weather.

Medina will now host Wilson in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.Tuesday to close out the N-O season. The twin bill will be held as the annual Jeff Evoy Memorial contest.

Medina is 10-0 in N-O action and Wilson 5-5.

The Albion at Roy-Hart contest was also rained out after two innings. The Rams and Purple Eagles will now play a doubleheader on Tuesday at Gasport beginning at 4:45 p.m..

Roy-Hart is currently 7-2 and Albion 3-7.

In the only N-O contest to weather the weather Akron improved to 7-3 by downing Newfane (4-7).

Mitchell Holtz pitched a 6 hitter for Akron as Matt Iannavelli banged out two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs.

N-O Softball

Akron 6, Medina 0

Akron scored five quick runs in the first inning to key a 6-0 win over visiting Medina and improve to 11-0 in N-O action.

Jenelle Kieffer hurled a 5 hitter with 8 strikeouts for the Lady Tigers which have already locked up the N-O title.

Tessa Boyce had 2 hits for Medina which is now 5-5.

The Roy-Hart vs. Wilson game was washed out.

Lacrosse

Akron 14, Medina 1

Akron posted a 14-1 win over Medina in a Class D Division lacrosse game at Vets Park which was shortened by a half due to lightning.

The Tigers led 10-0 after the first quarter.

Mitchell Silversmith scored the lone goal for Medina which is now 5-4 in the division heading into Wednesday’s home regular season finale against Depew.
