Medina 12U Fillies win playoff semifinal
The Medina 12U Fillies outscored the host Clarence Black 10-0 over the final three innings Tuesday to earn a 13-3 victory in the semifinal round of the Metro Girls Softball League playoffs.
Breaking away from a 3-3 deadlock, the Fillies moved on top to stay in the fifth inning on a three-run homer by Lacey Kenward. Hannah Kenward reached on a walk and Camri King followed up with a line drive single to set up that scoring opportunity.
The Fillies then broke the contest open by erupting for five runs in the sixth inning as Michaela Erway, Brooklyn Brown, King, Lacey Kenward and Elli Gross all crossed home plate.
Medina tacked on 2 more insurance runs in the seventh as Erway and FaithAnn Vanderwalker scored.
Medina, which never trailed, scored a quick run in the first inning on a bunt by Erway and an RBI single by Brown.
The Fillies added a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Erway which followed a double by Tessa Boyce and a single by Lexi Hare.
Also contributing to the Fillies victory were Grace Cook, Chloe Stinson and Carina Kingsbury.
The Medina defense also came up big retiring 9 of the last 10 Clarence batters.
In the circle, Lacey Kenward scattered 6 hits and struck out 10.
The Fillies now advance to the championship game against an opponent and on a date to be announced.
