Medina 12U Fillies claim playoff title
Sparked by a big early inning scoring burst, the Medina 12U Fillies went on to defeat the Hamburg Extreme 9-4 this evening in the Metro Girls Softball League Silver Division playoff championship game at Butts Park.
Up 1-0 after an RBI triple by Camri King in the first inning, the Fillies erupted for 5 runs in the decisive second inning highlighted by hits by Michaela Erway, Lexi Hare and Hannah Kenward. Erway, Brooklyn Brown, Hare, Hannah Kenward and Grace Cook all scored.
Brown later had an RBI double in the fourth inning to keep the Fillies up 7-3 after the Extreme had tallied 3 times in the top of the frame.
The Fillies put a lock on the win and the title in the sixth inning as Erway banged out a bases loaded two-run single.
Lacey Kenward earned the win in the circle for the Fillies. She registered the first two outs of the final inning herself with a strikeout and a grounder as shortstop Chloe Stinson got the final out.
The Fillies infield, which blanked the Extreme for 5 of the 7 innings, also had Brown at first, Elli Gross at second and King at third.
Also contributing to the Filles win were Tessa Boyce, Faith Vanderwalker and Carina Kingsbury.
