Medina 10U Fillies nipped twice

It was a busy weekend for the Medina U10 Fillies softball team which lost 4-3 to Hamburg on Saturday and 11-6 to Mel Ott on Sunday.

Lyanna King, Ryan Olles and Lily Joe Carpenter each had two hits for the Fillies against Hamburg as Bonnie DiCureia and Faith Oberther both had one.

Trailing 3-1, the Fillies pulled even with Hamburg by scoring twice in the fifth inning on RBI singles by King and Carpenter.

Hamburg scored the game winner in the seventh.

The Fillies did grab a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth as Olles singled and came home on a sacrifice by Oberther who also registered 13 strikeouts in the circle.

Oberther then had a home run and a single, Olles a triple and a single and Carpenter three singles in the loss to Mel Ott as King and DiCureia also each had a single.

Mel Ott scored seven quick runs in the first inning aided by a number of walks and errors.

The Fillies scored twice in the fourth on a home run by Oberther and an RBI single by Carpenter and once in the fifth as Olles tripled and came home on a sacrifice by Oberther.

Down 11-3, the Fillies did battle back with three runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Olles and an error but the rally fell short

The Fillies next host Amherst at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Butts Park.
