Medina 10U Fillies capture title
The Medina 10U Fillies nipped the Hamburg Extreme 7-6 Thursday at Butts Park to capture the Buffalo Metro Division “C” championship.
Breaking away from a 6-6 tie, the Fillies claimed the title by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning off the bat of Bonnie DiCureia.
“It was a nail bitter,” said Fillies Coach Pam Foss.
The Fillies had jumped out to an early 5-0 lead by scoring one in the first on an RBI single by Faith Oberther, three in the second on a two-run single by DiCureia and an RBI single by Ryan Olles and one in the third on a sacrifice by Baileigh McAdoo.
Oberther also had a huge game in the circle as she registered 15 strikeouts.
The Fillies maintained a 6-2 advantage after a run producing sacrifice by Iyanna King in the top of the sixth.
However, Hamburg rallied into a 6-6 tie by scoring four times in the top of the seventh on a two-run triple and a home run.
That set the stage for the Fillies dramatic finish in the bottom of the seventh.
The Fillies got the bases loaded after Demi Doward was hit by a pitch, Emilee Oberther walked and Olles received an intentional walk. DiCureia’s bat then drove in the game and title winning run.
Olles had a total of 3 hits and DiCureia 2.
