Maryvale surges past Barker/Roy-Hart

MIDDLEPORT – Touchdowns set up by a fumble recovery and a blocked punt keyed Maryvale to a 38-16 victory over Barker/Roy-Hart this evening in a B North Division game.

Maryvale jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a touchdown run of five yards by Andrew Donius and on a 13 yard scoring pass from Eric Graham to Austin Reamsnyder, a tally set up by a fumble recovery at the Barker/Roy-Hart 38. A 27 yard pass completion and a 15 yard penalty against Barker/Roy-Hart keyed that drive.

Barker/Roy-Hart did answer back with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Andy Xapsos to Brandinlee Woods and a two-point conversion pass from Xapsos to Thomas Callaghan to make it 14-8 but could get no closer.

Maryvale extended the lead a bit to 17-8 at the half on a late 25 yard field goal.

Early in the third quarter the Flyers capitalized on a blocked punt to boost their advantage to 25-8. Marcus Ford scooped up the blocked punt and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown.

Barker/Roy-Hart did answer right back with a 15 yard touchdown run by Tyler Childs and a two-point converse carry by Xapsos but would get no closer than 25-16.

Maryvale put a lock on the victory by answering the challenge with a 54 yard scoring drive after Barker/Roy-Hart failed on an on-side kick attempt. A one yard TD plunge by Michael Kelleher capped off that drive.

The Flyers final touchdown came on a two yard run by Ford with four minutes to go in the final quarter.

Maryvale is now 1-2 in the division and 1-3 overall while Barker/Roy-Hart is 0-4, 0-4.
