Making a lone first half touchdown hold up, Dunkirk edged past host Medina/Lyndonville/Barker 8-0 in a B2 Division game at Vets Park this evening spoiling the Mustangs Homecoming celebration.

Chris Ortiz scored the game’s lone touchdown for the Marauders with 2:30 to go in the first half capping a short drive set up by a pass interception. Terry Jamari tacked on the two point conversion run.

The Mustangs did get one big late scoring chance taking over at the Dunkirk 49 with 1:41 to go after the Marauders gambled and lost on a fourth down run attempt.

A 20 yard pass completion from quarterback Jarin Rhim to Tyler Chinn quickly moved the ball down to the Marauders 29. However, the Mustangs could get no closer as four straight pass attempts fell incomplete wiping out the last ditch threat. The Mustangs defensive unit came up big stopping two other Dunkirk scoring threats on fumble recoveries by Lincoln Pace and Caleb Cudzilo.

Dunkirk, which used up big chucks of time with a steady ground attack including one drive that took up the first 10 minutes of the third quarter, improves to 1-1 in the division and 3-1 overall while the Mustangs slip to 1-1, 1-3.

The evening also included the induction of Kevin Dukes into the John “Pinky” Loughlin Football Wall of Fame.

In an interdivisional game, East Aurora downed host Roy-hart 41-0.
