MURRAY – A 50-year-old Orleans County suffered an accidental gunshot wound to his upper right thigh on Monday night and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Monroe Ambulance.

Sheriff Chris Bourke said Orleans County Sheriff’s deputies were working a motor vehicle accident on Ridge Road in Murray when at 9:21 p.m. the Murray fire police reported a vehicle had driven up with a male passenger inside with a gunshot wound.

Upon investigating further, it was determined that this individual had been in a vehicle on his property repositioning and moving trailers around, Bourke stated in a news release.

The individual had a Ruger semi-auto .22 caliber pistol unholstered in his shorts pocket. When he put his seatbelt on, the gun reportedly discharged a round into his leg, Bourke said.
