MEDINA – Roberto Nunez celebrated his birthday at Orchard Manor today with a surprise party from his daughter and family.

It was a special birthday. Roberto and his family relocated to Medina from Puerto Rico just after Hurricane Maria. His home lost its roof, was flooded and destroyed. The family lost everything.

Roberto was taken from the Rochester airport to Strong Memorial Hospital with a poor prognosis as he had been bedridden at home in hospice care with leukemia and lung cancer.

After several months at Strong, Roberto came to Orchard Manor Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Medina. He’s been working hard in rehab and is now walking with a walker, and doesn’t need oxygen or hospice.

His daughter Cristal said it’s like a miracle from God. She is grateful for all the staff who have helped with his healing and progress.

Today they celebrated Roberto’s 83rd birthday and his chance of living.  He was surprised with the cupcakes and decorations. Family, therapists, and staff celebrated his birthday. His family is preparing to take him home, hopefully next month.
