Lyndonville posts key win over Notre Dame
Passing a big early season test, Lyndonville bested visiting Notre Dame 72-58 this evening in a key Genesee Region League game.
Nathan Dillenbeck scored 24, Nathan Hydock 19 and Zach Johnson 17 to lead the Lyndonville attack as Matt Hess added 9 and Nathan Poler 3.
Gabe MacDonald scored 20 and Zack Cocking 18, on six threes, for Notre Dame as Spencer Misiti added 8, Mason Randall and Keith Szczepanski 4 and Lucas Calarco and Andrew Moore 2.
Dillenbeck had the hot hand early scoring 11 points in the opening quarter, including three threes, to spark Lynodnville out to a 15-11 lead.
Johnson then hit three threes in the second quarter while Dillenbeck added another and Hydock had a layup and a rebound bucket and Hess a rebound basket to help boost the Tigers lead to 14, 33-19, at the half.
Keeping the momentum, Lyndonville opened the third period with a 12-3 run including a three and a layup by Hydock and a layup and a rebound basket by Johnson, to extend the advantage to 23, 45-22.
Notre Dame though answered with a 16-4 run, including five baskets by MacDonald and a pair of threes by Cocking, to cut the deficit to 11, 49-38. The Irish though could get no closer.
Lyndonville moved back out to a 16 point, 56-40, advantage by closing the third period with a 7-2 run including four free throws by Dillenbeck and a rebound basket by Hydock who had a total of 11 points in the stanza.
Notre Dame could get no closer than 10 down the stretch as Hess scored 6 and Dillenbeck and Johnson 4 each to keep the Tigers in command.
Lyndonville improves to 2-0 in the league and 4-0 overall.
