Lyndonville posts key Midget ‘A’ victory over Albion
Medina splits twin bill with Wheatfield/Cambria
Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Lyndonville’s Evan Milleville dives back to second base as Albion’s Dominic DiCureia tries to make the tag. The action took place during Lyndonville’s Midget ‘A’ win over host Albion this evening.
Maintaining sole possession of first place, Lyndonville romped to a 12-0 victory over host Albion this evening in a key Lockprot Midget ‘A’ League game.
Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Lyndonville took charge by exploding for 8 runs in the third inning.
A three-run homer by AJ Buckland and a two-run triple by Eric Neace highlighted that decisive uprising which was also aided by singles by Trevor Bentley and Jacob Hoffee and 3 errors.
Lyndonville then put a lock on the victory by tacking on 4 more runs in the fourth frame on an RBI single by Michael Wells, an error, a bases loaded hit batter and a fielders choice play. Lead-off singles by Buckland and Hoffee ignited that scoring burst.
Buckland had a total of three hits and Hoffee two.
Ty Hrovat hurled Lyndonville to the shutout win.
Ty Hrovat went the distance on the mound for Lyndonville scattering 5 hits and striking out 7.
Albion did get two runners aboard with just one out in the second inning on singles by Austin Loyd and Matt Howell but Hrovat quickly got out of trouble by throwing a runner out at first and then registering a clutch inning ending strikeout.
Lyndonville improves to 6-1 while Albion slips to 4-3 and two games off the pace.
Medina splits with Wheatfield
Medina posted a 6-3 win in the second game to earn a split of a doubleheader with host Wheatfield/Cambria which took the opener 6-5.
Medina erupted for five quick runs in the first inning of the second game on 4 walks, an error and singles by Quentin Adkins and Brett Riemer.
A single by Matt Riemer drove in Justin Morgan, who had reachd on a double, for Medina’s other run in the second inning.
Brett Riemer had 3 hits in the contest, including a pair of doubles, and Adkins 2.
Albion third baseman Brady Meakin puts the tag on Lyndonville’s Evan Milleville.
Jared Zinkievich came on in the third inning to get Medina out of a bases loaded jam by registering 3 clutch strikeouts.
In the opening game, Wheatfield/Cambria rallied for 4 runs in the fifth inning aided by 3 errors to claim the win.
Medina had built up a 5-2 lead by scoring twice in the second inning on a two-run double by Matt Riemer, twice in the fourth on a sacrifice by Morgan and a single by Brett Riemer and once in the fifth on an error.
Brett Riemer had 2 hits in the contest.
Medina is now 2-3 and Wheatfield/Cambria 3-5.
Medina next visits Lockport for a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Outwater Park.
