Lyndonville and Medina both scored home field victories this evening to remain 1-2 in the Lockport Midget ‘A’ League standings.
Front-running Lyndonville boosted its record to 6-2 by blanking Akron 11-0 and Medina improved to 5-3 by nipping Roy-Hart 6-5.
Lyndonville moved on top to stay by scoring two runs in the second inning on a single by Brandon Schoolcraft and a fielders choice play off the bat of winning pitcher Evan Milleville. Two walks set up the threat.
Lyndonville then broke the game wide open by exploding for six runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run single by Ty Hrovat.
Bases loaded walks plated three more runs and a fielders choice play off the bat of Michael Wells drove in another.
An error, a walk and a bunt single by AJ Buckland loaded the bases to set up the opportunity for the big inning which also included a single by Aaron Burnside.
Lyndonville tacked on three more runs in the fourth frame on singles by Buckland, Wells and Hrovat followed by a two-run double by Eddy Schlidt.
Lyndonville next visits Roy-Hart on Thursday.
Medina 6, Roy-Hart 5
Breaking away from a 4-4 deadlock, Medina scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single by Connor Barleben and a wild pitch for what proved to be the margin of victory in the narrow win over Roy-Hart.
A walk started the rally which also included a single by winning pitcher Matt Riemer.
Roy-Hart did answer back with an RBI single by Austin Heschke in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 6-5.
However, Roy-Hart left runners stranded at second and third as Medina relief hurler Jason Hellwig, who came on in the seventh, registered a clutch strikeout to end the rally and the game.
Riemer had scattered five hits and struck out 10 over the first six innings.
Medina had jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on a triple by Jake Cotriss, an RBI sacrifice fly by Hellwig, a double by Barleben and three walks.
Roy-Hart though pulled even in the third on an RBI triple by Judd Jamieson and a run producing single by Heschke.
Roy-Hart then moved into a 4-2 lead by scoring twice in the fourth on an RBI single by Brandon Wolter and an error.
Medina came battling back to retie the contest at 4-4 by scoring once in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Hellwig and once in the fifth as Brett Riemer singled and came home on a wild pitch.
Medina then kept the momentum to regain the lead for good with two runs in the sixth and avenge a pair of earlier season losses.
