Lyndonville joins with Holley for football
Holley’s 8 man varsity football team will have a new look this coming season as the Hawks lineup will include players from Lyndonville.
“We are extremely excited about it and our kids are excited and looking forward to it,” said Holley varsity Coach Wil Prince whose teams have been hampered by low numbers in recent years.
“This is happening. It has been approved,” said Lyndonville Athletic Director Jim Zeliff. “They welcomed us with open arms. I think it will be a mutually beneficial relationship. Holley was looking for a partner as their numbers have been a bit thin and this gives our kids who want to play football an opportunity to play.”
The past couple of years Lyndonville players competed on a tri school team with Roy-Hart and Barker (RBL). This coming season that team will now be only a Roy-Hart/Barker squad.
Lyndonville has 4 players returning from last year’s RBL varsity squad and Zeliff looks for 5 or 6 players to join the Holley varsity squad with several more on the modified team.
“This gives our kids the opportunity to play and it helps Holley’s numbers,” said Zeliff. “Numbers is the big thing right now for all schools, especially the smaller schools.” Hopefully this will develop into a long term partnership and hopefully our kids can find some success.”
