Playing alongside former major league star Dante Bichette, veteran hurler Ed Urbanik of Lyndonville helped the East Coast Cardinals win the championship in the 45 and Over Division of the Men’s Senior Baseball League Fall Classic held today at Clearwater, Florida.

The Cardinals nipped the Delco Cobras 8-7 in the championship game.

Urbanik, who is a regular on the Men’s Senior Baseball League national tournaments circuit, pitched middle relief coming in with the Cardinals down 5-4.

The Cardinals then rallied to claim the title as Bichette, who starred for many years with the Colorado Rockies, belted a bases clearing double to complete the comeback.

“He drove it to the fence,” said Urbanik. “That guy can hit. He hit .299 for his Major League career.”

The Cardinals advanced to the title game by downing the Maryland Monarchs 10-5 in the semifinal, a contest played at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Earlier in the tournament, Urbanik pitched a five hitter in leading the Cardinals to a 13-2 victory over the Monarchs in a contest played at Brighthouse Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
