Lyndonville, Holley wrestlers advance to sectional semifinals
Four wrestlers from Lyndonville and one from Holley each scored a pair of victories today to advance to the semifinals of the Section V Division 2 (small schools) wrestling championships at SUNY Brockport.
Jeff Gress Jr. (106), Tony Recco (120), Dustin Joy (145) and Devin Joy (160) will represent Lyndonville in the semis while Lucas Silvis (220) will represent Holley.
Gress wasted little time in gaining a berth in the semis as he registered a pair of quick sub minute pins in 41 and 47 seconds respectively.
Recco opened defense of his Section V title with a even quicker 36 second pin and then registered a fall in 3:18 in the quarterfinals.
Dustin Joy likewise notched a pair of pins, the first in 2:14 and the second in overtime in 6:33 over Holley’s Martin Beadle in the quarterfinals.
Devin Joy also opened with a pin of 4:31 and then earned a 6-2 decision win in the quarterfinals.
Silvis opened with a 9-0 major decision win and then notched a pin of 3:42 in the quarterfinals.
The semifinal round is scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday with the finals slated to get underway at 5 p.m.
