Lyndonville has two Class B mat champs

Albion, Medina, Holley grapplers also advance

Two Lyndonville wrestlers, Tony Recco (113) and Dustin Joy (138), earned championships this evening at the Section V Class B Tournament held at Arkport.

Recco earned his third straight class championship by decisioning Blake Antal of South Seneca in the title bout.

Recco, who received the Most Outstanding Wrestler award for the lighter weight classes, scored a technical fall victory in the semifinals and ha a lightning quick 28 second pin in the quarterfinals.

Dustin Joy notched a decision win over Austin Prince of Keshequa in his championship match. He scored a decision win in the semifinals and had a technical fall win in the quarterfinals.

The Tigers have five other grapplers who are also advancing to next weekend’s Section V state qualifier including Jeff Gress Jr., who placed second at 99, Garren Bayne (third at 99), Alex Murphy (third at 138), Tom Follman (third at 152), and Devin Joy (fourth at 145).

Four Albion and three Medina wrestlers have advanced to the Section VI state qualifier following competition in today’s class tournaments.

A quartet of Albion wrestlers earned top four finishes at the Class B Tournament at Cheektowaga as Aaron Burnside (138) placed third while Justyn Haines (160), Aaron Mulroy (182) and Kollin Reynolds (195) all placed fourth.

The Purple Eagles also had Ed Wolfe (170) place fifth and Blake Aina (132) and Dylan Burkhardt (220) sixth.

Medina had a trio advance from the Class C Tournament held at Eden as Brennen Callara (106) took second and Joe Velez (113) and Charles Beach (182) third.

Callara was pinned by Cameron Page of Falconer in the finals after pinning Jacob Paige of Eden in the semis.

Velez decisioned Brent Bachman of Barker/Roy-Hart and Beach decisioned Jordan Brawley of Newfane for third place honors.

The Mustangs also had Kalvin Packer place fifth and Ben Howell sixth.

Barker/Roy-Hart had a pair of second place finishers at the Class C Tournament in Cameron Swick at 120 and James Brady at 285.

Four other Niagara-Orleans League wrestlers earned Class C titles including Newfane’s Nate Martin (145), Wilson’s Chase Wheeler (152) and the Akron duo of John Fiebelkorn (99) and David Case (285).

In the Section V Class BBB tournament Holley has advanced a total of eight wrestlers to next weekend’s Section V State qualifier.

Kevin Avery (152) placed second for the Hawks as Brandon Morrell (99), Nick Shenck (120), Dan Flanagan (126) and Martin Beadle (138) all placed third, Lucas Silvis (220) fourth, Ryan Camacho (145) fifth and Austen Vroman (285) sixth.

Avery dropped a 6-3 decision to Josh Griffith of Warsaw in the finals.

Girls Basketball

Alexander 47, Kendall 29
Jumping out to a 21-11 half-time advantage, Alexander went on to defeat visiting Kendall 47-29 this evening in a Genesee Region League girls basketball games.

Tania Arellano had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Kendall as Taylor Kingsbury added 11 rebounds and 4 points and Shelby Reis 4 rebounds and 4 points.
