Long trip a winner for Mustang JVs
The Medina/Lyndonville JV football squad enjoyed a long season opening trip to the Genesee Valley Saturday posting a 46-8 win over host Wayland-Cohocton.
The Mustangs made the long trip as their originally scheduled opening week opponent, Lew-Port, has cancelled their JV season due to low numbers.
Ronnie Koonce spearheaded the Mustangs offense passing for 152 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for 118 yards and two more touchdowns.
Johnny Salone and Brendan Luthart each hauled in two of those TD passes and William Braswell added a 79 yard touchdown run.
Koonce also ran for a pair of two-point conversions to round out the Mustangs scoring.
The Mustangs defense was led by Justice Hughes with 10 tackles, Trenton Jones 8, Ian Joseph 7 and Salone 6. Salone and Rickie Pitts each also intercepted a pass.
The Mustangs next host East Aurora at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vets Park. East Aurora opened with a 26-20 win over Olean.
