Local trio places third at wrestling sectionals

Third place finishes by Medina’s Colby Petrie (126) and the Lyndonville duo of Chase Stinson (126) and Mario Fidanza (220) were the top performances by local wrestlers at this weekend’s sectional championships.

In the Section VI Division 2 (small schools) championships at Lake Shore, Petrie rebounded from a narrow 5-4 semifinal loss to earn third place honors with a pair of decision wins, including a narrow 2-1 victory in the bout for third and fourth place.

In the Section V Division 2 championships at SUNY Brockport, Stinson and Fidanza likewise both rebounded from semifinal losses to earn third place honors.  Stinson earned a 6-4 sudden victory win for his third place finish while Fidanza posted a narrow 5-4 decision win.

Also at the Section VI championships Medina’s RaShawn Bloom (99) and Albion’s Cody Wilson (285) both placed fourth while the Roy-Hart duo of AJ Schafer (160) and Karson Grover (195) both placed sixth.

The Section V champions also saw Holley-Kendall with a trio of place finishers as  Erik Balys (152) and Cade Aina (182) both took fourth and Tristyn Moyer (120) sixth.

Niagara-Orleans League champion Newfane had a trio of Section VI champions including Andy Lucinski (99), Josh Gill (120) and Jaden Heers (285). The Panthers also had a second place finisher in Ryan Nugent (145) as did Akron in Millard Young (195).
