Local teams go 1-2 at Can-Am Tourney

The Thunderwolves Showcase defeated the Northtown Nationals 4-0 in the championship game of the Can-Am Wood Bat Tournament hosted at Niagara County Community College and Cambria Town Park over the weekend.

The Thunderwolves went 4-0 on the weekend and featured three Niagara-Orleans League players in their starting lineup. Brett Riemer (Medina) at first base and John Bender (Wilson) at third base each made key defensive plays in the championship game, and JP Henry (CSAT) had 2 hits while playing center field.

The Nationals finished 3-1 and advanced to the championship game by defeating the Rochester Cougars Eite 2-0 in the semifinal behind a no-hitter from pitcher Jason Hellwig (Medina). Hellwig allowed only one base runner on a hit by pitch in the seventh inning and struck out 9.

Justin Morgan (Medina) handled the catching duties for the Nationals and had a hit in the semifinal and championship game.
