All WNY, All State honors for N-O players

The Niagara-Orleans League is represented by four players on the All Western New York boys soccer squad and by three players on the All State small schools team.

Undefeated N-O champion Wilson, which advanced to the state finals, is represented on the All WNY squad by the trio of senior forward Aidan Neumann, junior midfielder Cole Herrmann and senior defender Andrew Danner.

Neumann, who scored 55 goals and had 13 assists, has been named to the overall All WNY team. He was also honored as N-O League Player of the Year.

Herrmann, who had 8 goals and a school record 28 assists, and Danner, who had 1 goal and 5 assists, have both selected to the All WNY small schools team.

Medina has placed senior defender Luke Duffina on the All WNY small schools team.

Neumann, Herrmann and Duffina have also all been named to the All State small schools team.

Veteran quintet leads Purple Eagles

After finishing in the runner-up spot last year Albion is again looking to contend for the Niagara-Orleans League basketball title led by a quintet of veterans.

Senior Wesley Olles, who earned first team N-O All-League honors and senior Tyler Cody, who was a second team honoree, heads that veteran group which also includes seniors Nate Gibson, Josh Schoeberlein and Elliot Trapiss.

Olles scored 262 points (11.9 ave.) and grabbed off 177 rebounds and Cody tallied 279 points (12.7 ave.)

“We’ve got decent experience back including two All Leaguers and that’s huge,” said Coach Travis Downs. “We have to play real good defense and be efficient on offense.

The Purple Eagles graduation losses included Kyle Radder, Isaiah Riley, Seth Krenning, Luke Bell and Kwami Riley.

Albion, which went 9-3 in the league and 13-9 overall last year, will tune up for the December 11 N-O opener at defending champion Akron by hosting Palmyra-Macedon on Dec. 5.

Rams take aim at rebound season

Looking to bounce back from last year’s 2-10 Niagara-Orleans League record, Roy-Hart returns a large group of eight veterans.

That contingent includes seniors Tysen McCaa, Vinny Fazzio, Tyler Rothwell, Ian Earl, Isaac Smith and Nick Harding along with juniors Matt Aquilina and G’Ahmeer Barnes.

The Rams roster also includes senior Josh Bronschidle, junior Owen Madel and sophomores John Brigham, Jakob West and Gavin Ickowski.

“We’ve got good experience back and they are working hard,” said Rams new Coach Connor Brooks. “We’re looking to build on what is here.”

Roy-Hart, which went 6-15 overall last year, will open the season on December 5 with a non league home game against Allegany-Limestone. The Rams N-O opener will be at Medina on Dec. 19.

Vikings top Tigers in season opening tourney

Lyndonville opened the local high school basketball season in the North Country this evening as the Tigers dropped a 33-22 decision to the Thousand Islands Vikings in the opening game of the LaFargeville Tournament.

Colton Smith had 8 points and 8 rebounds, Lane Woodworth and Lyric Raduns 5 points each and Atticus Mank 4 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.

Lyndonville will next face LaFargeville at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

RBM hockey team drops home opener

The Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina Club Hockey team opened their home season against Buffalo this evening and came away losing 7-3.

Team Buffalo entered the game with a 1-1 record, while RBM was 1-0.

Buffalo opened the scoring at the 6 minute point of the opening period and took a 2-0 lead two minutes later.

With 5:23 left in the first, John Peracciny (R-H) scored from Sean Mettler (R-H). Before the end of the first, RBM tied the score on a goal by Viktor Snyder (Albion), assisted by Ryan Felicetti (Wilson).

Buffalo again scored the first two goals of the second period, but Mettler’s unassisted goal at the 9:55 mark, brought RBM back to within one goal.

Unfortunately, Buffalo again scored in the second and added two more in the third.

Now 1-1 on the young season, RBM’s next game is this Sunday morning at 11:35 at home against unbeaten Olean.

Lady Eagles to host season opening tourney

With a veteran quartet anchoring the lineup, the Kendall girls basketball team will open the season by hosting the Lady Eagles annual tournament on December 4 and 6.

The tournament’s opening round matchups will have Medina vs. Holley followed by Albion vs. Kendall.

Leading the way for Kendall will be the veteran foursome of senior Stella Kwiatek, juniors Sophia Picardo and Mia Price and sophomore Izzy D’Agostino.

“It is a good group. They are working hard and the chemistry is better,” said Coach Lucian Price. “I’m excited to see the way they jell.”

Kendall, which went 9-6 in Genesee Region competition and 12-9 overall last year, will open the league campaign at home on Dec. 9 against Pembroke.

Lady Hawks have large veteran group

With nine returnees on an 11 player roster, the Holley girls basketball team has plenty of experience heading into the December 4 season opener against Medina at the Kendall Tournament.

The Lady Hawks squad includes seniors Ella Turpyn, Alexis VanAmeron, Alexis Lujan and Maizy Earhart along with juniors Madie Lowell, Mia Thom and Desiree McCormick and sophomores Brynn Thomas, Kyla Burne, Hanna Ostrom and Jayna Burris.

“We’re young and athletic,” said Stephanie McBride who has taken over the Lady Hawks coaching reins.

Holley’s graduation losses included Alivia Wolf and Zoey Wolf.

The Lady Hawks, which went 2-13 in Genesee Region action and 6-15 overall last year, will begin league competition at home on Dec. 9 against Wheatland-Chili.

Lady Tigers return a solid nucleus

Anchored by a good group of seven returnees, Lyndonville is prepping for the Lady Tigers non league home season opener against Roy-Hart on December 3.

Lyndonville’s veteran contingent includes seniors Rylan Townsend, Isabella Groves, Lilly Raduns and Emily Dill along with juniors Hannah Fox and Annalee Clark and sophomore Alexa Robinson.

“We’ve got a lot of talent, a lot of grit and we’re looking to build on last year,” said Co-Coach Katelyn Draper.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge,” added Co-Coach Lee Dillenbeck.

The Lady Tigers main graduation loss was Addison Dillenbeck.

Lyndonville, which went 5-8 in the Genesee Region League and 12-9 overall last year, will open G-R competition at Oakfield-Alabama on Dec. 9.

Albion Youth Football and Cheerleading organization receives special national award

Albion Youth Football and Cheerleading President Geno Allport here accepts the award from Lisa Licata Sr. Director of Youth Sports Administrators  for NAYS and John Engh Executive Director of NAYS. “It shows that we are doing it the right way,” said Allport. “It’s a great honor and something we can share with parents that shows that we’re here for the kids. NAYS officials noted that “the award is presented to organizations for a specific project, initiative or component of a program that goes above and beyond. This award recognizes the innovative ways organizations that have earned the Better Sports For Kids Quality Program Provider designation are making their programs stand out and truly become excellent.”

Lady Bulldogs eye a rebound season

With all five starters back Barker is looking to rebound from last year’s 0-12 Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball season.

In all the Lady Bulldogs return seven veterans including seniors Peyton Bradley, Haley Dodge, Mallorie Fiscco, Briley Huwyler and Kaylee Stoll along with sophomores Elise Monaco and Alina Riches.

The Barker roster also includes juniors Cheyenne Rouse and Villette Jary.

“I like our group,” said Coach Jim Harris. “We have all five starters returning. I tthink we’ll be ok.”

Barker will open the season with a non league game at CSAT on December 2. The Lady Bulldogs N-O opener is scheduled for Dec. 12 at Medina.

Lyndonville has three Scholar Athlete teams

All three of Lyndonville’s fall varsity sports teams including boys soccer, girls volleyball and the combined Barker/Lyndonville girls soccer squad have earned New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Awards by compiling a composite average of at leas 90.

Boys Soccer (90.83 combined GPA) – Michael Alexander, Brayden Aydelotte, Austin Fonda, Ethan Franks, Brody Hazel, Iziah Rodriguez, Colton Smith, Maddox Smith and Shannon Withey.

Girls Soccer (95.48 combined GPA) – Brooke Robinson, Natalie Rath, Alexa Robinson, Rylan Townsend, Leah Costello, Braelynn Dillenbeck, Abigail Alexander, Arnie Sturtevant, Isabella Groves, Annalee Clark, Cheyanne Rouse, Melodi Murphy, Alina Riches, Lillyanna Reyes, Delaney Lefever and Aine Davis.

Girls Volleyball (92.66 combined GPA) – Elena Barry, Isabella Bresett, Sarah Corser, Emily Dill, Destinee Holmes, Leah Kenyon.

Albion girls prepping for early N-O opener

Five veterans anchor the lineup for Albion which will get the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball season off to an early start as the Purple Eagles are scheduled to host Akron on December 8 at 6:30 p.m.

The Purple Eagles veteran quintet includes seniors Leah Pawlak, Madison Muckle and Aubrey Gannon along with junior Melia Prince and freshman Aaliyah Jones.

“We did lose four starters but we’ve got good experience back,” said Coach Wil Prince.

The Purple Eagles graduation losses included the starting quartet of Cami London, Julia Knight, Paige Newton and Kenzi Snook.

Albion, which went 4-8 in N-O action and 6-14 overall last season, will tune up for the N-O campaign by visiting Wheatland-Chili on December 2.

Veteran trio set to lead Barker cagers

Looking to improve upon last year’s 3-9 league record, Barker has four non league contests scheduled before the Niagara-Orleans home opener against Medina on December 11.

Seniors Donovan Hefferon and Jackson Prynn along with junior Anthony Taliaferro head Barker’s returning group which also includes seniors Carson Schwab, Carson Marvin, Austin Puchlerz and Maico Vazquez. The Bulldogs are also looking to juniors Ashton Ark, Carter DerSarkissian and Peyton Wagner.

“We’ve got good size and pretty good experience back,” said Coach Jake Haight.

Barker is slated to host Lyndonville in the season opener on December 1 at 6:30 p.m. The Bulldogs also have non league games scheduled at Attica on Dec. 3 and home against Notre Dame on Dec. 5 and Alden on Dec. 8.

Hawks, Eagles, Tigers have All Tourney picks

Holley, Kendall and Lyndonville have all placed players on the All Tournament teams following the recent Section V soccer playoffs.

The Holley girls team, which won the Class C1 title, is represented by the quartet of Hanna Ostrom, Mia Thom, Brynn Thomas and Jayna Burris

The Hawks boys squad has placed Tarek Garret.

In Class C2, the Kendall girls team has placed the trio of Addison Kludt, Sophia Picardo and Brooke Rodas.

The Eagles boys squad is represented by the threesome of Brandon Barrett, Jonny Conte and Pablo Rosario-Reyes.

Both of the Eagles teams lost in the C2 finals.

In Class D2, the Lyndonville Tigers have placed Jesus Reyes and Colton Smith.
