Lyndonville scored a home mat doubleheader victory this evening to open the wrestling season as the Tigers defeated Pavilion/York 69-12 and St. Mary’s, Lancaster 60-11.

Shannon Withey, Ben Doolan and Greyson Romano all had pins and Brody Hazel an overtime win for the Tiigers in the victory over St. Mary’s.

Iziah Rodriguez had a pin and Jake Gidley a last second decision win against Pavilion/York.

Holley defeated host Wheatland-Chili 52-36 and Kendall dropped a 58-52 decision to visiting Pembroke in season opening Genesee Region League boys basketball games this evening.

Avante Walker scored 16, Cam Mosier 14 and Josh Silpoch 10 to lead the way for Holley.

Walker and Mosier both scored 9 points in the first half to help spark the Hawks out to a 30-16 half-time advantage.

Pembroke took a 34-26 half-time lead over Kendall as Nolan Peterson hit six threes. The Dragons maintained a 47-39 lead at the end of the third quarter. Peterson finished with a game high 29.

CJ D’Agostino scored 22 and Jonas Rhodes 12 for Kendall.

Grabbing a 25-17 half-time advantage, Medina went on to defeat Park School 47-32 in a non league girls basketball game this evening.

Caliyah St. Louis scored 23 and Alexa Demmer 14 to lead the Medina offense.

St. Louis also had 7 steals and 6 rebounds, Demmer 4 steals, Emberlyn Oakes 8 rebounds and Roswyn Oakes 5 rebounds for the Mustangs which next host Barker at 5 p.m. Friday in the Niagara-Orleans League opener.

Barker dropped an 81-27 decision at Kenmore West in another non league game this evening.

Elise Monaco scored 15 and Cheyanne Rouse 7 for Barker.

Albion romped to a 60-21 victory at Wilson  and Akron bested host Medina 49-18 in season opening Niagara-Orlans League wrestling matches this evening.

Pins by Jackson Snook (285) in 59 seconds, Stryker Sanders (118) in 36 seconds, Drake Schomske (132) in 4:55 and Hoyt Aina (175) in 4:56 along with six forfeit wins earned Albion the road win.

Wilson got pins from David Gurski (157) and Cristofaro Interisano (190)

Early back-to-back sub minute pins by Logan Firmanek (215) in 51 seconds, and James Crooks (285) in 41 seconds ignited the win for Akron which also got a pin by Alex Brandl (138) in 3:43.

Medina got pins by Aurelius Schalck (103) in 5:07 and Luke Duffina (132) in 1:38 as Tyler Raduns (175) and Jacob Duffina (118) both added decision wins.

Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball action will tip off on Thursday as Medina visits Barker at 6 p.m. and Albion travels to defending champion Akron at 6:30 p.m.

Medina has gone 3-0 in season opening non league action as Jerrell Nealy is averaging 21.3 points per game and Preston Woodworth 18.7.

Barker, which has gone 2-2 in non league contests, has been led by Anthony Taliaferro, who is averaging 19.8, Donovan Hefferon (8.0) and JJ Prynn (7.2).

Akron, which has gone 2-0 in non league games, has been paced offensively by the quartet of Blake Gerstung (21.5 ave.), Derren Brooks (16.0), Ben Gerstung (12.5) and Ace Abrams (12.5).

Albion has had only one game, a 69-50 non league loss to Pac-Mac. Elijah Doxey led the Purple Eagles with 29 points.

Niagara-Orleans League champion Roy-Hart has placed two players on the All Western New York volleyball squad.

Senior Grace Pearl and sophomore Lauren Snyder have both been named to the All-WNY second team.

In addition, Pearl, who was named N-O Player of the Year, has also been named to the fifth team of the All State Class B squad.

Pearl had 153 spiking kills, 38 aces and 91 digs on the season.

Snyder had 82 kills, 33 aces and 20 assists.

Pembroke edged host Kendall 55-52 and Oakfield-Alabama downed visiting Lyndonville 45-21 in Genesee Region League girls basketball games this evening.

Peyton Liss scored 23, Jayden Hootman 14 and Onolee Easterbrook 11 for Pembroke which led 39-34 at the half and 50-41 after three quarters.

Mia Price scored 19, Teagan Shaw 12 and Stella Kwiatek 10 for Kendall which started with only six players and finished with three.

Trailing 11-10 at the half, Oakfield-Alabama used an 18-1 third period scoring burst to key the win over Lyndonville.

Allison Williams scored 18 and Allison Harkness and Alexa Clark 10 each for Oakkfield-Alabama.

Isabella Groves led Lyndonville with 9.

In a non league boys basketball game Notre Dame downed Roy-Hart 71-21.

Nine Medina High fall varsity sports teams have earned New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete awards by compiling a composite average of at least 90.

Those teams and their averages include Volleyball (96.75), Field Hockey (95.945), Boys Soccer (94.43), Boys Cross-Country (93.94), Golf (96.64), Girls Cross-Country (96.64), Football (92.64), Football Cheerleading (91.29) and Girls Soccer (95.29).

Making it three road wins in a span of just four day to open the season, Medina bested host Starpoint 67-55 this evening.

Jerrell Nealy scored 26 and Preston Woodworth 20 to spearhead the Medina offense as Christian Moss added 6 and Jayzon Wills and Hadrian Batista 5 each. Nealy scored 11 in the first quarter and 12 in the third while Woodworth tallied 9 in the final period.

Trailing 27-25 at the half, Medina rallied into a 46-38 lead at the three-quarter mark. The Mustangs then outscored the Spartans 21-17 in the final period to lock up the win.

Medina next visits Barker at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Niagara-Orleans League opener.

Barker 51, Alden 38
Barker tuned up for Thursday’s N-O open opener by downing Alden 51-38 as Anthony Taliaferro scored 24, Carter DerSarkissian and Donovan Hefferon 8 each and Peyton Wagner 5.

JJ Prynn led the Bulldogs on the boards with 12 rebounds as Hefferon had 11 and Taliaferro 10.

Barker led 11-5 after the first quarter, 21-17 at the half and 32-25 after three quarters.

Shamus George scored 38 and Aidan Neumann 22 to lead Wilson to a 74-51 non league win over MST.

Opening the league season in exciting fashion, Albion nipped visiting Akron 54-50 in a Niagara-Orleans contest this evening.

Melia Prince scored 7 and Aaliyah Jones and Madison Muckle both hit threes to lead Albion in the decisive final period as Jocelyn Friedl hit three free throws and Leah Pawlak tallied the clinching basket with four seconds remaining.

Price finished with a game high 16 points as Pawlak added 12, Jones and Muckle both had 9 and Friedl 8.

Clara Bogdan scored 11 and Abby Gerstung 10 to lead Akron as Olivia Novak, Cara Swader and Marissa Brege 7 each, Kenadee Jonathan 4 and Kylie Mangione 2.

Albion jumped out to a 15-7 first quarter led as Pawlak had a three and a two and Muckle a three.

The Purple Eagles maintained an 11 point, 28-17, lead at the half as Prince scored 6 and Muckle hit another three in the second quarter.

Akron though battled back in the third quarter outscoring Albion 18-8 to rally back to within one at 36-35. Brege had 7, including a three, Bogdan two threes and Jonathan a three to lead the Lady Tigers rally.

Late in the final period Prince rattled off five points in a row on two baskets and a free throw to give Albion a 51-46 lead.

Akron though closed the gap to within one, 51-50 in the final minute after a three by Bogdan and a free throw by Gerstung but the Lady Tigers could not pull even.

Friedl gave Albion a little breathing room by making a free throw with 19 seconds remaining. Pawlak then locked up the narrow with with a clutch basket with four seconds remaining.

Wheatland-Chili 40, Holley 27
Wheatland-Chili downed host Holley 40-27 in a Genesee Region League game.

Brynn Thomas scored 8 points, Desiree McCormick 5 and Kyla Burne and Ali VanAmeron 4 each for Holley. Hanna Ostrom also had 5 rebounds and 3 steals, McCormick 7 rebounds, VanAmeron 6 rebounds, Burne 4 steals and Thomas 2 steals.
