Snapping a three game losing streak, Lyndonville downed visiting Medina 53-42 in a non league girls basketball game this evening.

Alexa Robinson scored a game high 22 points to lead Lyndonville as Isabella Groves added 12, Leah Kenyon 6, Braelynn Dillenbeck 5, Emily Dill 4, Lilly Raduns 3 and Natalie Rath 1.

Alexa Demmer led Medina with 10 as Samantha Heschke tallied 8, Caliyah St. Louis 7, Harmoni Wilson 4 and Madison Zeiner 4 each, Emberlyn Oakes, Tatianna Maxon and Autumn Cornelius 3 each.

Lyndonville jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead as Robinson scored 6, Dillenbeck 5 and Groves 4.

The Lady Tigers maintained leads of 28-22 at the half and 43-31 after three quarters. Robinson scored 6 in the second and 5 in the third and Kenyon 6 in the third.

However, the Mustangs did battle back to within five, 46-41, by outscoring the Lady Tigers 10-3 over the first five minutes of the final period including 6 by Demmer.

The Mustangs though could get no closer as the Lady Tigers answered with a three-point play by Robinson followed by a pair of baskets by Groves to quickly go back up by 12, 53-41, and put a lock on the victory.

Medina is now 3-3 and Lyndonville 2-3.

Making the most of an opportunity to play on an NBA court, Kendall bested Northstar 61-44 at Cleveland’s Rocket Arena Monday evening following the Cavaliers game.

CJ D’Agostino scored 20 to lead a parade of eight Eagles point getters. Jonny Conte tallied 12, Vinnie D’Agostino 8, Noah Morehouse and Ryan Gaesser 6 each, Sammy Conte 5 and Jonas Rhodes and Caleb Opalecky 2 each.

Kendall grabbed a 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter as Jonny Conte and CJ D’Agostino both had a two and a three to help get the Eagles rolling.

CJ D’Agostino then had a big 11 point second quarter to help the Eagles increase their advantage to 12, 31-19, at the half.

Kendall upped the lead to 17, 49-32, at the end of the third period as Vinnie D’Agostino scored 6 and Jonny and Sammy Conte both hit threes in the third period.

It marked the second year in a row that Kendall has played at Rocket Arena.

Now at 3-1, the Eagles will next host their holiday tournament next Monday and Tuesday.

Pulling away in the second quarter, Albion went on to defeat host Oakfield-Alabama 77-53 in a non league boys basketball game this evening.

Up 16-10 at the end of the opening period, Albion put together a big 27-13 scoring surge in the second quarter to open up commanding 20 point, 43-23, half-time advantage.

Nate Gibson scored 12, including a pair of threes, and Elijah Doxey 6 to lead that Purple Eagles uprising.

Keeping the momentum, the Purple Eagles went on to outscore the Hornets 20-13 in the third period to maintain a comfortable 27 point, 63-36, advantage heading into the final quarter.

Wesley Olles scored 7, Doxey 6 and Gibson 5 to lead that scoring burst.

Gibson finished with 21, Olles 17 and Doxey 14.

Improving to 3-2, Albion next hosts Warsaw in another non league contest on January 3.

Improving to 7-0, Medina posted a 77-55 victory over visiting Eden in a non league game this evening highlighted by senior Jerrell Nealy surpassing the 1,000 point career scoring milestone.

Nealy hit the 1,000 point milestone with a rebound basket late in the third quarter becoming just the Mustangs ninth 1,000 point scorer.

Nealy finished with 25 upping his career total to 1,008 as Preston Woodworth 19 and Christian Moss 14 to lead the Medina offense. Jayzon Wills added 7, Avion Johnson 5, Hadrian Batista 3 and Vinny Gray and Bryan Santiago Bautista 2 each.

Kobe Genco took game high scoring honors with 26 for Eden.

Moving on top to stay, Medina jumped out to a 21-10 first quarter lead as Nealy scored 13.

The Mustangs upped the advantage to 19, 44-25, at the half as Woodworth scored 9, including a three and Moss 4 in the second quarter as Johnson and Batista also both hit threes.

Medina maintained a 14 point, 61-47, lead at the end of the third quarter which saw Moss score 5 and Woodworth and Wills 4 each.

Avion Johnson pulls down a rebound for the Mustangs.

The Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina Ice Hockey Knights visited the Northtown Center in Buffalo Sunday evening and lost 4-1 to St. Joseph’s of Buffalo.

The home team scored first in the opening period, but RBM was able to tie in the second on a goal by Aiden Cronkhite (Newfane) with Clayton Wagner (Medina) and Max Pilon (Medina) assisting.

In the final period, RBM penalties led to a power play goal by the hosts which proved to be the game winner.

RBM’s, which currently has a record of 1-4-1, will travel to Leisure Rink in West Seneca on Friday evening to play Bishop Timon at 6:15 p.m.

The upcoming Christmas holiday week will bring a light schedule of high school contests.

On Monday in non league boys basketball games Medina will host Eden at 6:30 p.m. and Albion will visit Oakfield-Alabama at 7 p.m.

In addition, Kendall will take on Northstar at 9:30 p.m. at the Rocket Arena in Cleveland following the Cavaliers game. This is the second year in a row that the Eagles have played in Cleveland.

On Tuesday in non league girls basketball Medina will visit Lyndonville at 6 p.m.

The Niagara-Orleans League will have a full slate of wrestling matches at 6 p.m. Tuesday with Roy-Hart/Barker at Albion, Medina at Wilson and Akron at Newfane.

Defending champion Newfane and Akron are both 2-0, Albion and Roy-Hart/Barker 1-1 and Medina and Wilson 0-2.

Albion will also be competing in the Spencerport Tournament on Saturday.

Staying perfect at 8-0, Wilson outlasted Niagara-Wheatfield 76-70  in overtime in non league boys basketball game this afternoon.

Aidan Neumann scored 30, Shamus George 17, Ryan Hough 12 and Brock Lepsch 10 for the Lakemen.

Linda Knuutila Memorial Tourney
Four local wrestlers earned top four finishes at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament which concluded this evening at SUNY Niagara.

Roy-Hart/Barker had RJ Townsend finish second at 285, Luke Fay fourth at 144 and Isabella Gatto fourth at 235 in the girls division.

Medina had Luke Duffina finish third at 132.

Medina had Ryan Frentz (144) and Nate Surdel (285) both place third at the Williamsville South JV Tournament.

Going 4-0 on the day, Holley-Kendall captured top honors at the East Rochester Wrestling Tournament this afternoon.

In route to earning the championship Holley-Kendall defeated East Rochester 54-26, Warsaw 64-22, Hornell 60-23 and Lancaster 52-24.

John Blosenhauer and Immanuel Cornell both went 4-0 on the day for Holley-Kendall as Carson Cady, Jayden Rivera, Brenden Eichas and Brody Fiorito all went 3-1.

Improving to 6-0, Letchworth rolled to a 62-16 win over host Albion in a non league girls basketball game this afternoon.

Charity Scott scored 14, Annika Milillo 13 and Gillian Kemp 12 to spark the balanced attack for the Legends which led 19-5 after the first quarter, 36-9 at the half and 53-11 at the end of the third quarter.

Aaliya Jones scored 7 and Jocelyn Friedl 4 to lead Albion.

The Purple Eagles next visit Newfane on January 5 for a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Bouncing back strongly from an 8 point first quarter deficit, Medina surged to a 71-49 victory over visiting Roy-Hart in a Niagara-Orleans League basketball game this evening.

Jerrel Nealy scored 14, Preston Woodworth 12, Christian Moss 11 and Kolton Fletcher 10 to lead Medina’s balanced attack. Hadrian Batista added 8, Jayzon Wills 6, Briley Allen 4, Avion Johnson and Vinny Gray 3 each.

Matt Aquilina took game high scoring honors with 20 for Roy-Hart as Vinny Fazzio tallied 7, Jakob West 5, Isaac Smith and Nick Harding 4 each, Tysen McCaa and Owen Maedel 3 each, Josh Bronschild 2 and Tyler Rothwell 1.

Aquilina scored 7 and West 5 to spark Roy-Hart out to a 19-11 first quarter lead.

However, Medina answered back with a 16-7 second period scoring spurt to rally into a slender 27-26 half-time lead.

Woodworth and Batista both hit threes and Wills made a pair of baskets, including the late go-ahead tally, to key the Mustangs surge.

Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs then broke the game wide open by outscoring the Rams 25-8 in the third period to extend the advantage to 18, 52-34, heading into the final quarter.

Fletcher and Woodworth both hit a pair of threes, Nealy had a three and a two and Moss a three-point play and a basket to lead that decisive uprising.

Medina is now 2-0 in N-O action (6-0 overall) and Roy-Hart 0-1.
