Mustangs will host league leading Lakemen in key N-O contest Tuesday

For Medina the biggest boys basketball game of the season to date will be on Tuesday as the Mustangs host Niagara-Orleans League leading Wilson at 6:30 p.m.

Wilson is 9-0 in N-O action and holds a two game lead over Medina and Akron, both at 6-2.

A Wilson win will clinch at least a tie for the N-O title for the Lakemen. A Medina win will slice the Wilson lead to just one game and keep the Mustangs and Akron both in the title chase.

Medina’s week will also include a key contest at rival Albion on Friday. The Mustangs will then close out the season by hosting Akron on Tuesday February 10 and visiting Newfane on Friday February 13.

Brockport wrestlers win Albion Duals

Brockport captured top honors at Albion’s inaugural Purple Eagle Duals Wrestling Tournament today.

Brockport went 6-0 on the day defeating Roy-Hart/Barker 59-11, Gowanda 51-18, Wellsville 65-16, Orchard Park 52-24, Albion 50-24 and Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton 60-12.

Albion finished in a three way tie for second place with Orchard Park and Gowanda at 4-2.

The Purple Eagles defeated Wellsville 50-30, Gowanda 47-32, Roy-Hart/Barker 41-39 and Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton 60-18 but lost to Orchard Park 51-20 and Brockport 50-24.

Jackson Snook (285) went 6-0 on the day for Albion as Jaxson Lynch (150), Stryker Sanders (118) and Justin Mengs (110) all went 5-1. Drake Schomske (126). Alakai Colmenero (138) and Corbin Piccirilli (132) all went 3-3.

Roy-Hart/Barker had Luke Fay (144) go 5-1, Max Hickman (150) and Liam Silsby (215) 4-1, Oliver Klug (165) 3-2 and Max Liuzzi (103) 3-3.

Rochester downs RBM Club hockey team

The Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina Knights Club Hockey team hosted the powerful Rochester club Friday and suffered a 7-4 defeat.

The visitors, entering the game with a 9-1-1 record, were in for a great contest.

The Knights took the lead very early in the game on a goal by Max Pilon (Medina) from Ryan Felicetti (Wilson). Within three minutes, Rochester answered with a hat trick from their top scorer, but Clayton Wagner (Medina) answered for RBM assisted by Sean Mettler (RH).

The 3-2 deficit remained through the remainder of the first and all of the second period.

In the third, the visitors scored, but the Knights eventually tied the game on goals by Mettler and Pilon with assists going to David Ward (RH), Wagner and Felicetti.

With seven minutes left in the game, Rochester got the game-winner from their top scorer and went on to score two insurance goals.

Rochester outshot RBM by a margin of 53-26.

Sunday morning, RBM will play their third game in six days, and their final home game against Hamburg at 11:35 a.m.

 

Lady Tigers post win over Lady Hawks; Mustangs down Lady Flyers

Eight players contributed to the point production as Lyndonville downed host Holley 41-12 in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this afternoon.

Isabella Groves scored 12 and Alexa Robinson 9 to lead the way for Lyndonville as Lilly Raduns added 5, Braelynn Dillenbeck and Leah Kenyon 4 each, Leah Costello 3, Emily Dill and Annalee Clark 2 each.

Brynn Thomas scored 5, Ali VanAmeron, Kyla Burne and Alexis Lujan 2 each and Mia Thom 1 for Holley which didn’t score a field goal until six minutes into the third quarter.

The Lady Tigers led 11-1 after the first quarter, 22-1 at the half and 27-6 at the end of the third quarter.

Medina 48, Maryvale 32
Building up a 26-9 half-time advantage, Medina went on to defeat host Maryvale 48-32 in a non league contest.

Samantha Heschke scored 15 and Caliyah St. Louis 14 to set the pace for Medina. Alexa Demmer added 8, Roswyn Oakes 7 and Tatianna Maxon and Emberlyn Oakes 2 each.

Late free throws lift Medina past Barker

Clutch free throw shooting in the last minute and a half earned Medina a narrow 56-52 win over visiting Barker in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game this evening.

Trailing 49-48, Medina rallied to regain the lead for good at 56-49 by making eight straight free throws in the final 1:30 including four by Preston Woodworth and two each by Jerrell Nealy and Christian Moss.

Moss had a total of 7 points, Nealy 6, Woodworth 4 and Carlos Doval a three to spark the Mustangs in the decisive final quarter.

The sea-saw final period saw no less than four lead changes and two ties as Barker’s last lead of 49-48 came on a layup by Anthony Taliaferro with 1:46 remaining.

Taliaferro had a total of 7 and Donovan Hefferon and Carter DerSarkissian 5 each for the Bulldogs during that stretch as all three hit threes.

Woodworth and Nealy both finished with 18 to lead the Mustangs. Moss added 7, Doval 6, Kolton Fletcher 3 and Hadrian Batista and Avion Johnson 2 each.

Taliaferro scored 18 and Hefferon 16 to pace the Bulldogs. DerSarkissian and JJ Prynn both added 8 and Carson Schwab 2.

The teams played to a 15-15 tie at the end of the first period which saw no less than five ties.

Woodworth hit two threes and Doval one for the Mustangs during that stretch as Hefferon scored 5 and Prynn and Taliaferro 4 each for the Bulldogs.

The Mustangs went on to hold narrow leads of 27-22 at the half and 36-35 at the end of the third period. Nealy had three baskets and Woodworth a pair of threes in the second quarter for the Mustangs.

Medina improves to 6-2 while Barker slips to 1-7 in N-O action.

Undefeated (9-0) Wilson maintained a two game lead in the all important loss column by downing winless (0-7) Roy-Hart 73-38.

Aidan Neumann scored 25 to lead the way for the Lakemen which got point production from all 14 players.

Matt Aquilina scored 11 and Vinny Fazzio 10 for Roy-Hart.

Lane Woodworth scored 25 to lead Lyndonville as Quincy McClinsey added 7, Colton Smith and Lyric Raduns 6 each, Atticus Mank 5 and Kevin Babock 4.

Avante Walker scored 25 and Josh Silpoch 7 to pace Holley.

Defending champion Wilson stayed undefeated in N-O action at 8-0 by downing Roy-Hart (4-4) 61-28.

Albion will host Purple Eagle Duals Wrestling Tournament on Saturday

Seven teams will be competing in Albion’s inaugural Purple Eagle Duals Wrestling Tournament on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

In addition to the host Purple Eagles the tournament field will include Roy-Hart/Barker, Brockport, Orchard Park, Gowanda, Wellsville and Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton.

Each team will have a total of six matches on the day. There will be a total of seven rounds on the day with three matches in action during each round.

The tournament schedule by round is as follows:

Round 1 (9 a.m.) – Gowanda vs. Dansville/W-C, Orchard Park vs. Albion, Brockport vs. Roy-Hart/Barker.

Round 2 (10:15 a.m.) – Gowanda vs. Brockport, Wellsville vs. Albion, Orchard Park vs. Dansville/W-C

Round 3 (11:30 a.m.) – Brockport vs. Wellsville, Gowanda vs. Albion, Roy-Hart/Barker vs. Dansville/W-C

Round 4 (12:45 p.m.) – Gowanda vs. Wellsville, Roy-Hart/Barker vs. Albion, Brockport vs. Orchard Park

Lyndonville wrestlers edge Wilson

A narrow one point decision win in the final bout earned Lyndonville a narrow 36-33 victory over host Wilson in a non league wrestling match this evening.

Shannon Withey (165) provided the margin of victory for the Tigers with a 5-4 decision win which snapped a 33-33 tie.

Bryson Hazel (103), Michael Alexander (144) and Brody Hazel (150) all registered pins for Lyndonville which also got a technical fall victory by Justin Holmes (118) and a decision win by Chanse Amsdill (132).

Newfane wins six events at the annual N-O boys All-League swim meet

Regular season champion Newfane took first place honors in 6 of 11 events at the annual Niagara-Orleans boys All-League swim meet held this evening at Akron.

Newfane’s foursome of Dylan Lamont, Noah Kneeland, Eli Kneeland and Giovani Wright teamed up to win both the 200 Medley Relay in 1:54.33 and the 400 Free Relay in 3:48.25.

Noah Kneeland was also an individual event double winner taking both the 100 Butterfly in :55.63 and the 100 Breaststroke in 1:02.95.

Dylan Lamont also won the 100 Backstroke in 1:00.73 and Eli Kneeland the 200 Individual Medley in 2:37.73.

Albion’s Justin Kania also was an individual event double winner taking both the 200 Free (2:01.05) and the 100 Free (:54.80).

Kania also teamed up with Liam Leader, Nathan Wehling and Logan Kast to earn Albion a victory in the 200 Free Relay (1:42.06).

Medina had a pair of individual even winners as Bryson Ford took the 50 Free in :24.01 and Bradley Goyette the 500 Free in 5:55.75.

Purple Eagles surge past Bulldogs

Moving on top to stay with a scoring burst to close the first half, Albion went on to down visiting Barker 72-49 in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game this evening.

Breaking away from a 27-27 tie, Albion closed the first half with a key 12-3 scoring surge, including seven by Wesley Olles, to take the lead for good by a 39-30 margin at the half.

The Purple Eagles then broke the game wide open by outscoring the Bulldogs 18-5 in the third period to pull away to a commanding 22 point, 57-35 lead.

Elijah Doxey scored 8, including two threes, and Tyler Cody and Nate Gibson both added 4 to spearhead that Purple Eagles uprising.

Doxey finished with a game high 29, including 20 in the first half. Cody had 13 and Gibson 10 on the evening as Olles tallied 7, Adam Burgio 5, Josh Schoeberlein 3, Nick Luft and Hunter Huscher 2 each and Ezra Bloom 1.

Anthony Taliaferro and Donovan Hefferon both scored 12 and JJ Prynn 10 to lead Barker as Carter DerSarkissian and Blake Carnes 3 each, Peyton Wagner, Ashton Ark, Caden Garcia and Dominic Cimato 2 each and Carson Schwab 1.

Albion is now 4-5 and Barker 1-6 in N-O.

Barker next visits Medina at 6:30 p.m. Friday for a make-up game.

Akron 67, Newfane 39

In the other N-O game, Akron (6-2) defeated Newfane (3-6) 67-39 as Ben Gerstung scored 19, Derren Brooks 15 and Ace Abrams 13.

Kasey Wheat took game high honors for Newfane with 26.

Albion girls score sixth N-O victory

Albion improved to 6-3 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball competition with a 65-40 win at Barker.

Madison Muckle scored 17, Aaliyah Jones 15, Melia Prince 9 and Jocelyn Friedl 6 to pace Albion which led 29-19 at the half and by 15, 46-31, at the end of the third quarter.

Elise Monaco led Barker with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Oakfield-Alabama 53, Lyndonville 18
Oakfield-Alabama downed Lyndonville 53-18 in a Genesee Region League game as Allison Williams scored 12, Raine Denny 9 and Alexa Clark 7.

Isabella Groves scored 6 for Lyndonville as Braelynn Dillenbeck, Rylan Townsend and Leah Costello each had 3.

Oakfield-Alabama led 28-6 at the half.

Alexander 40, Holley 18
Ali VanAmeron had 7 points and 7 rebounds for Holley in the G-R loss to Alexander as Kyla Burne and Ella Turpyn both had 4 rebounds.

RBM Knights bow in Senior Night contest

Reversing the scene from their game earlier in the season, Timon defeated the Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina Knights Club Hockey team in Lockport last evening by the same 2-0 score that RBM beat them earlier in the season.

After a scoreless first period, the visitors scored the game winning goal early in the second period and added an insurance score in the third. The Knights outshot Timon 36-15, but could not light the lamp.

The evening was Senior Recognition for RBM with the following players in their final season for RBM: Max Pilon- Medina, Aiden Cronkhite and Noah Orens- Newfane, and John Peracciny, David Ward, Nate Downey and Sean Mettler- Royalton-Hartland.

RBM returns to action at home on Friday evening at 8:15 p.m. against league- leading Rochester.

Kendall cagers down Oakfield-Alabama

Building up a 35-20 half-time advantage, Kendall went on to down Oakfield-Alabama 76-40 in a Genesee Region League boys basketball game this evening.

CJ D’Agostino scored 26 and Vinnie D’Agostino 20 to lead the way for Kendall. Jonny Conte added 9 and Noah Morehouse and Pablo Rosario Reyes 6 each.

In other G-R action, Notre Dame defeated Lyndonville 81-44 and Pembroke downed Holley 92-40.

For Lyndonville, Quincey McClinsey scored 16, Lane Woodworth 11 and Colton Smith 9.

For Holley, Cam Mosier and Avante Walker each scored 13.

Albion wrestlers edge Lyndonville

Wins in the final two bouts earned Albion a 46-34 victory over visiting Lyndonville in a non league wrestling match this evening.

Breaking away from a 34-34 deadlock, Albion regained the lead for good at 40-34 on a forfeit win at 215.

The Purple Eagles then locked up the win on a lighting quick 16 second pin by Jackson Snook (285) to close out the match.

Albion also got off to a fast start jumping out to a 24-0 lead on a burst of four straight pins by Elizabeth Colmenero (103) in 4:55, Justin Mengs (110) in 1:10, Stryker Sanders (118) in 1:20 and Drake Schomske (126) in 41 seconds.

However, Lyndonville got right back in the match by scoring three straight wins on a pin by Dominic Hargrave (132) in one minute, a major decision win of 15-3 by Chance Amsdill (138) and a pin by Michael Alexander (144) in 1:52 to slice the deficit to 24-16.

The Purple Eagles though countered with a pin by Alakai Colmenro (150) in 4:55 and a major decision win of 16-4 by Jaxon Lynch (157) to pull back out to an 18 point, 34-16 advantage.

The visiting Tigers though came battling back one more time with three straight pins by Shannon Withey (165) in 1:26, Greyson Romano (175) in 1:59 and Ben Doolan (190)n 1:10 to rally into a 34-34 tie.

That set the stage for the Purple Eagles to earn the narrow win by claiming the final two bouts on a forfeit win and a sub minute.

The Purple Eagles will next host the Albion Duals Tournament on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

The Tigers will visit Wilson in another non league match at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Seahorses split with TigerSharks in N-O finale

Medina split with visiting Akron this evening to close out the dual meet portion of the Niagara-Orleans League swim season.

The Seahorses won the boys’ meet 86-61 and the TigerSharks took the girls’ competition 94-65.

Bryson Ford doubled in the 50 Free and 100 Butterfly and Bradley Goyette in the 500 Free and 100 Breaststroke for the Medina boys as Brandon Bruecker took the 200 Individual Medley.

For Akron, Aron Gehl won the 200 Free, Quinn O’Malley the 100 Free and Carson Flanders the 100 Backstroke.

Medina finishes at 6-2 and Akron at 3-5.

Charlotte Carlson doubled in the IM and Butterfly and Aurora VanDusen in the 500 Free and Breaststroke for the Akron girls as Eliza Koopman took the 50 Free and Brooke Milhollen the Backstroke.

For Medina, Madeline Mark won the 200 Free and Lily Hungerford in 100 Free.

Akron finishes at 6-1-1 and Medina at 2-6.

Newfane sweeps Roy-Hart/Barker
The Newfane boys and girls teams both closed out N-O title seasons with wins over visiting Roy-Hart/Barker.

The Newfane boys won 92-55 to finish at 8-0 and the girls took a 95-63 victory to wind up at 7-0-1.

Noah Kneeland doubled in the IM and 100 Free and Dylan Lamont in the Butterfly and Backstroke for the Newfane boys as Robert Hathaway took the 500 Free.

For the Roy-Hart/Barker boys, Noah Corraine won the 200 Free, Oscar Dergel the 50 Free and Jackson Brauen the Breaststroke.

Emma Haseley doubled in the IM and Butterfly and Riley Klopfer in the 200 Free and 500 Free for the Newfane girls as Sara Klinger took the 100 Free, Eliana Reis the Backstroke and Kimberly Schmitt the Breaststoke.

Samantha Fox won the 50 Free for Roy-Hart/Barker.

Albion cagers score sweep over Newfane

Albion swept to a home and away basketball doubleheader victory over Newfane in Niagara-Orleans League action this evening.

Albion defeated host Newfane 69-54 in the boys game as Tyler Cody scored 24, Elijah Doxey 20, Nate Gibson 13 and Wesley Olles 8.

Kasey Wheat scored 16, Camlo Flowers 12, Camryn Stover 9 and Mac Capen 8 for Newfane.

Albion led 17-10 after one quarter, 35-29 at the half and 50-42 at the three-quarter mark.

The Purple Eagles and Panthers are now both 3-5 in N-O action.
