Looking to rebound from last spring’s winless (0-12) Niagara-Orleans League campaign, the Medina varsity softball team returns a large group of 10 veterans.

Junior catcher Alexa Demmer, who earned first team N-O All-League honors last year, junior pitcher Samantha Heschke, who was second team honoree and senior outfielder Lilah Class, who was an Honorable Mention selection, leads the Mustangs veteran group.

That contingent also includes seniors Molly Cook (outfield/infield) and Karlee Cau (infield/pitcher); juniors Isabelle Perez (outfield) and Lilly Maynard (outfield); sophomore Harmoni Wilson (outfield) and freshmen Jenna Cecchini (outfield) and Savannah Jo Thompson (shortstop).

The Mustangs graduation losses included outfielder Eva Lacy and infielders Sophia Goyette and Makenzie Alverez.

“I’m very excited about the season,” said Jess Forrestel who takes over the Mustangs coaching reins. “We have a good group back and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

The Mustangs are scheduled to tune-up for the March 30 N-O opener at defending co-champion Barker at 4:45 p.m. by hosting JFK in a non league contest at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Mustangs N-O home opener is slated for April 1 against defending co-champion Roy-Hart at 4:45 p.m.

Facing a bit of a rebuilding task, the Barker baseball squad is led by a group of six veterans.

That contingent includes seniors JJ Prynn (outfield/pitcher), Dom Cimato (utility) and Aaden Munn (infield) along with juniors Logan Flint (infield/pitcher) and Keagan Schaal (utility) and sophomore Drew LaGreca (infield). Prynn earned second team Niagara-Orleans All League honors last spring.

“We have some experience back but we lost six regulars to graduation so we’re rebuilding a bit,” said Coach Jesse Watts.

The Bulldogs graduation losses included Isaac Monaco (shortstop/pitcher), Owen Harris (second base/outfield), Noah Sandolfini (catcher/pitcher), Tristan Garcia (third base/pitcher), Ireland Brady (second base/pitcher) and Michael Kalynycz (outfield/pitcher). Monaco and Sandolfini were both second team N-O All League honorees.

Barker, which went 3-9 in N-O action last spring will begin prepping for the April 13 league home opener against Wilson by hosting Kendall on March 25 at 4:45 p.m.

Coming off a 7-7 Genesee Region League record (10-9 overall) last spring, the Kendall softball squad is led by a solid nucleus of seven players.

A trio of G-R All-Star honorees including senior catcher Brooke Rodas, sophomore shortstop Izzy D’Agostino and sophomore infielder Teagan Shaw heads that group which also includes senior infielder Alea Barrett, junior outfielders Sophia Picardo and Allayna Keirn and freshman infielder/outfielder Ella Cole.

The Lady Eagles are also looking to sophomore Kourtney Marion, freshman Gabby Hauptman and eighth grader Adrianna D’Agostino.

“We have a decent nucleus back and some promising young players so we’re looking for a good season,” said Coach Jeff Parizek.

The Lady Eagles graduation losses included Inez Stangler (pitcher/outfield), Lia Larson (third base), Ella Christ (shortstop/second base) and Maggie Zastrow (infield).

Kendall is scheduled to begin tuning up for the April 14 G-R home opener against Elba by visiting Barker on March 24 at 4:45 p.m.

A comeback bid fell short as Medina’s Melanie Green has missed the cut at the LPGA Tour’s Fortinet Founders Cup Touanament at Menlo Park, California.

Green fired a strong bogey free 4 under par round of 68 today with four birdies.

However, the solid round was not enough to overcome Thursday’s 7 over par round of 79 which included 6 bogies and a disastrous triple bogey and only two birdies.

That gave her a two day total of 3 over par 147 which missed the cutline of even par by three shots.

Next up on the LPGA Tour will be the Ford championship at Phoeniz, Arizona next week.

Last spring Barker earned a share of the Niagara-Orleans League softball championship. Now, with the lineup returning virtually intact, Barker is again taking aim at earning top N-O honors.

Barker shared the N-O crown with Roy-Hart at 10-2 last spring.

The Lady Bulldogs large veteran contingent includes seniors Kaylee Stoll (infield), Peyton Bradley (pitcher/infield), Madelina Pavlock (infield) and Sophia Gerhardt (outfield) along with junior Fallyn Mescall (infield), sophomores Elise Monaco (utility), Lexi Brazzell (catcher), Madyson Flint (pitcher/infield), Lilly Reyes (utility) and freshman Aine Davis (outfield).

Flint, Bradley and Stoll were all first team N-O All-League honorees while Pavlock and Brazzell were second team selections and Monaco an Honorable Mention selection.

“We bring back a large group of experienced player and are excited about the season ahead. We are looking forward to challenging for another league title,” said Coaches Aileen Gilbert and Bill Moeller.

Barker is scheduled to tune up for the March 30 N-O home opener against Medina by hosting Kendall on March 24 and visiting Lockport on March 27.

Looking to keep the momentum from last spring’s, league and sectional championship season, the Kendall baseball team returns a large veteran contingent.

That veteran group includes seniors Nic Cole (pitcher), Vinnie D’Agostino (shortstop), Jonny Conte (second base), Mikey Colucci (outfield) and Adrian Bucci along with juniors CJ D’Agostino (first base/pitcher) and Jacob Abrams, sophomores Andrew Cole and Sammy Conte (third base) and freshman Andrew D’Agostino (catcher).

“The experience we have is huge,” said Coach Tige Noni. “If we can stay healthy we should have a real good season.”

The Eagles graduation losses included pitcher Gavin Braun and catcher Colby Hughes.

Kendall went 12-0 in the league and 23-2 overall last year as the Eagles won both the Genesee Region League and Section V Class C2 championships and well as the Section V Class C state qualifier before bowing in the Far West Regional.

The Eagles are slated to open the season with a non league game at Barker on March 25 and then spend the Easter break week in Myrtle Beach for a series of scrimmages and games. The G-R opener is slated for April 9 at home against Elba.

Five Holley-Kendall and two Lyndonville wrestlers have earned spots on the Genesee Region League All-Star team.

Champion Holley-Kendall is represented by juniors Brenden Eichas (138), Aiden McGrain (215) and Immanuel Cornell (285) along with freshman Carson Cady (118) and 7th grader Jeremy Lutes (103).

Eichas and Lutes both went 31-9 on the season  while Cornell 25-9, Cady 23-11 and McGrain 19-16.

In addition, Holley-Kendall Coach Jim Mapes was named G-R Coach of the Year.

Lyndonville has placed the junior duo of Brody Hazel (150) and Shannon Withey (157).

Hazel went 28-16 and Withey 25-9.

The G-R All-Star squad also includes juniors Ryder Reichert (150), Austin Post (126) and Max Heckman (157) from Alexander/Pembroke along with senior Solomon Smith (175), junior Bradley Tatar (215) and sophomores James Lamb (150) and Parker Moore (157) from Byron-Bergen.

Now, with their lineup returning nearly intact, the Lady Tigers are again looking to compete for top G-R League honors.

The Lady Tigers veteran group is led by a trio of G-R All-Stars including senior shortstop Brooke Robinson, junior infielder Hannah Fox and sophomore pitcher Arnie Sturtevant.

The large veteran contingent also includes seniors Isabella Groves (first base), Ryland Townsend (outfield/second base), Barbara Jary (outfield), and Emily Dill (outfield) along with sophomore Alexa Robinson (catcher) and freshman Braelynn Dillenbeck (pitcher).

Rounding out the Lady Tigers roster are junior Destinee Holmes and freshman Natalie Rath.

“Our pitching is back and we should be a solid contender for the title,” said Coach Joe Moore.

The Lady Tigers graduation losses included G-R All Star catcher Addison Dillenbeck and third baseman Emma Frees.

Lyndonville is scheduled to begin tuning up for the April 3 G-R League home opener against Wheatland-Chili by visiting Wilson on March 27.

The Lady Tigers posted a 19-3 overall record last year.

Seven veterans anchor the lineup for Albion which is scheduled to begin tuning up for the Niagara-Orleans League baseball season by hosting Tonawanda in a non league contest on April 1.

The Purple Eagles veteran contingent includes seniors Kaiden Froman (outfield/pitcher/catcher), Nate Gibson (catcher/pitcher/infield), Elliott Trapiss (infield/pitcher) and William Plummer (outfield) along with juniors Gavin Boyce (pitcher/infield), Drew Pritchard (pitcher/outfield) and Mason Snook (pitcher/outfield).

Gibson and Trapiss were both first team N-O All-League selections last spring while Boyce was a second team pick and Froman an Honorable Mention selection.

“We have most of our pitching returning so we should be ok on the mound and defensively,” said Coach Bruce Blanchard. “The key will be how well we hit.”

The Albion roster also includes juniors Logan Scott Grager (infield/outfield), Nick Luft (outfield), Kicker Wilson (infield/outfield), Alaka Colmenero (outfield/pitcher), Wesley LeFrois (outfield) and CJ Winters (first base).

The Purple Eagles graduation losses included Andrew Boyce (pitcher/infield), Seth Krening (pitcher/outfield) and Aaron Woodroe (outfield). Boyce was a first tam N-O All League honoree.

Albion is slated to open the N-O season at Roy-Hart on April 13.
