Kendall downs rival Holley as the Eagles Hall of Fame inducts the 75-76 sectional title team

Celebrating a very special occasion in style, Kendall rolled to a 79-43 home court victory over rival Holley in a Genesee Region League boys basketball game this evening.

The evening was highlighted by the induction of the Eagles undefeated (22-0) 1975-76 Section V Class C championship basketball team into the Kendall Athletic Hall of Fame. The Eagles 75-76 squad, which was honored as the No. 1 Class C team in the state by the state Sportswriters Association, was the fourth of five straight Kendall teams to capture the Section V Class C title. The Eagles compiled a 104-6 overall record during that title run including 55 straight wins at one stretch.

On the court this evening the Eagles were led by CJ D’Agostino with 31 and Noah Morehouse 20. Vinnie D’Agostino and Sammy Conte both added 10, Pablo Rosario-Reyes 6 and Jonas Rhodes 2.

Avante Walker scored 17 and Cam Mosier 10 to lead Holley as Cooper Wolf added 8. Josh Silpoch 5 and Logan Gillespie 3.

Setting the tone early Kendall jumped out to a 21-9 first quarter lead as Morehouse hit two threes and Vinnie D’Agostino and CJ D’Agostino both had a pair of baskets.

The Eagles upped the lead to 19, 38-19, at the half as CJ D’Agostino had 9 and Morehouse 5 in the second period.

The Eagles led by 23, 61-39. at the three quarter mark as CJ D’Agostino had 12 and Morehouse 7 in the third period.

Kendall, which next visits Albion for a non league game at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, improves to 12-5 while Holley slips to 3-14.

Lady Tigers top Lady Hawks. Lady Eagles win

Notching victory No. 10, Lyndonville downed visiting Holley 59-43 in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this evening.

Alexa Robinson scored 16 and Isabella Groves 14 to lead the way for Lyndonville. Braelynn Dillenbeck added 8, Lilly Raduns 6, Leah Kenyon 5, Hannah Fox 4 and Rylan Townsend, Annalee Clark and Emily Dill 2 each for the Lady Tigers.

Brynn Thomas scored a game high 18 on six threes to lead Holley. Hanna Ostrom added 7, Mia Thom, Alexis VanAmeron, Jayna Burris and Kyla Burne 4 each and Alexis Lujan 2 for the Lady Hawks.

Lyndonville jumped out to a 24-10 first quarter lead as Robinson scored 12 and Dillenbeck and Kenyon both hit threes.

The Lady Tigers went on to lead by margins of 42-19 at the half and 55-28 at the three-quarter mark. Groves hit a  pair of threes and Dillenbeck had two baskets in the second period. Robinson and Raduns then both had a pair of baskets and Groves a three and a two in the third quarter.

Lyndonville, which is now 10-8, next host Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Friday.

Holley, which next visits Kendall at 5:30 p.m. Friday, is now 4-13.

Kendall 58, Byron-Bergen 31
Building up a 30-16 half-time advantage, Kendall went on to down visiting Byron-Bergen 58-31 in another G-R contest.

Teagan Shaw scored a game high 21 for the Lady Eagles as Izzy D’Agostino added 12, Mia Price 11, Sophia Picardo and Stella Kwiatek 5 each and Brynn Hardenbrook and Payton Vogt 2 each.

Alexander 52, Barker 29
Cheyanne Rouse scored 13 for Barker in the 52-29 non league loss to Alexander.

Kendall will honor the Eagles undefeated 1975-76 sectional champion team Thursday

It was the Golden Age of boys basketball at Kendall High as from the 1972-73 season through the 1976-77 season the Eagles captured five straight Section V Class C championships compiling an overall record of 104-6 including 55 straight wins at one stretch.

Thursday evening, on the 50th anniversary of their accomplishment, the Eagles 1975-76 undefeated (22-0) sectional championship team will be inducted into the Kendall Athletic Hall of Fame. That team was honored as the No. 1 Class C team in the state in the New York State Sportswriters Association poll.

Coached by Dick Reynolds, the 1975-76 Eagles lineup included Roosevelt Bouie, Nate Bouie, Bob D’Agostino, Phil D’Agostino Ed Gaesser, Gary Kludt, Tom Cole, Jim Gerbig, Joe Vick, John Mikels, Craig Wolf and Joe Spann.

Kendall defeated Harley-Allendale-Columbia 73-55 in the championship game as senior Roosevelt Bouie earned his third straight Class C MVP award.

In route to the final the Eagles defeated Arkport 86-37 in the pre-quarterfinals, Avoca 87-41 in the quarterfinals and Geneva DeSales 77-43 in the semifinals.

During their memorable five year title run the Eagles went 19-3 during the 1972-73 season defeating Bloomfield 64-57 in the finals; 21-1 during the 1973-74 season downing Red Creek 74-47 in the finals; 22-0 during the 1974-75 season besting Mt Morris 64-51 in the finals, 22-0 during the 1975-76 season and 20-2 during the 1976-77 season topping Geneva DeSales 64-63 in the finals.

Interestingly, the Eagles undefeated (22-0) 1974-75 team was ranked second in the state in Class C by the NYSSWA poll.

Thursday’s induction ceremony is slated for halftime of the varsity game between Kendall and rival Holley which is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Kendall surges past Byron-Bergen

Improving to 11-5, Kendall downed visiting Byron-Bergen 65-45 in a Genesee Region League boys baskeball game this evening.

CJ D’Agostino scored a game high 22, Vinnie D’Agostino 16, Noah Morehouse and Jonny Conte with 10 each and Sammy Conte 7 to lead the way for the Eagles.

Finishing with double-doubles, Morehouse also grabbed off 16 rebounds and CJ D’Agostino 11.

Cody Carlson and Joe Brumstead each had 19 for Byron-Bergen.

The Eagles led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter and 29-23 at the half before pulling away to a commanding 20 point, 51-31, advantage at the end of the third period.

Kendall will next host rival Holley at 7 p.m. Thursday. At halftime the Eagles 1975-76 undefeated Section V champion basketball team will be inducted into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame.

Akron girls post key win over Medina

Akron stayed in contention to earn at least a share of the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball title by downing visiting Medina 52-32 this evening.

Improving to 9-2, Akron will now close out the N-O season by hosting front-running defending champion Wilson (10-1) on Friday needing a win to earn a share of the title.

Olivia Novak scored 16, Abby Gerstung 12 and Clara Bodgan 11 for Akron.

Alexa Demmer scored 17 and Samantha Heschke 8 for Medina.

In the other N-O games, Wilson defeated Albion 61-46 and Newfane downed Roy-Hart 52-47.

Aaliyah Jones scored 13, Melia Prince 11, Jocelyn Friedl 7 and Madison Muckle and Leah Pawlak 6 each for Albion.

Julia Noonan scored 21 and Ali-Leena Golden 11 to lead Newfane.

Adella Dukes scored a game high 23, Millie Owens 7 and Peyton May 6 for Roy-Hart.

N-O Standings: Wilson 10-1, Akron 9-2, Albion 7-6, Roy-Hart 5-6, Medina 4-7, Newfane 3-8, Barker 1-10.

Lakemen down Albion to lock up N-O title

Undefeated Wilson locked up outright possession of the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball championship with a 58-45 win over visiting Albion this evening.

The N-O championship is the first since the 2014-2015 season for Wilson which improves to 11-0 in league competition.

Aidan Neumann took game high scoring honors with 24 for the Lakemen as Shamus George and Chase Martin both added 9. Neumann tallied 15 in the second half.

Tyler Cody scored 13, Nate Gibson 12 and Elijah Doxey 7 for the Purple Eagles which finish the N-O season at 6-6.

Wilson led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter, 27-18 at the half and 40-31 at the end of the third period.

Newfane 53, Roy-Hart 39
Newfane topped Roy-Hart 53-39 in the other N-O contest as Isaac Zachary scored 15 and Kasey Wheat and Camlo Flowers 12 each.

Vinnie Fazzio scored 17 and Matt Aquilina 16 for Roy-Hart.

Alexander 79, Barker 48
Carson Marvin scored 15, Donovan Hefferon 14 and Carson Schwab 8 for Barker in the 79-48 non league loss to Alexander.

Tigers edge past Mustangs with late surge

In a tight sea-saw battle, Akron scored the game’s final 8 points to earn a 64-58 win over host Medina in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball contest this evening.

Trailing 58-56, Akron rallied to claim the win as Derren Brooks had two baskets and a free throw and Blake Gerstung followed up with a victory clinching three.

Blake Gerstung finished with a game high 20, Brooks 18 and Ben Gerstung 17 to lead the Tigers which outscored the Mustangs 17-9 in the decisive final period. Ace Abrams added 5 and Brodie Hill and Jackson Pragle 2 each for the Tigers. Blake Gerstung had a total of 4 threes and Ben Gerstung 3.

Preston Woodworth led Medina with 15 as Carlos Doval added 9, Christian Moss 8, Jerrell Nealy 7, Avion Johnson and Kendrick Russaw 6 each, Kolton Fletcher 5 and Jayzon Wills 2.

Akron grabbed a slender 20-19 lead at the end of the first quarter which saw 2 ties and 4 lead changes. In all the contest had a total of 9 ties and 9 lead changes.

Blake Gerstung and Ben Gerstung both scored 7 in the opening stanza as they each had a three.

All five of Medina’s baskets in the period were threes including two by Woodworth and one each by Moss, Fletcher and Johnson.

The Tigers maintained a five point, 37-32, lead at the half as Blake Gerstung scored 10 in the second period, including a pair of threes, and Ben Gerstung 7, also including a three.

The Mustangs though answered with a 17-10 third period scoring edge to rally into a 49-47 lead. Doval spearheaded that rally with 8 points including a three.

That set the stage for a back-and-forth fourth quarter which saw three ties and as many lead changes.

Medina went up by five, 52-47, at the outset on a three by Woodworth.

Akron answered with a 7-0 run on baskets by Brooks and Hill and a three by Ben Gerstung to regain a 54-52 lead.

The Mustangs answered right back with a 6-3 run to regain the lead for what proved to be the last time at 58-56 on baskets by Wills, Russaw and Woodworth.

However, the last rally 8-0 and the win belonged to the Tigers led by Brooks who scored 5 during that run and 9 of his 18 in the final stanza.

The tense fourth quarter was marred by a fight in the stands which spilled out onto one corner of the court and held up play for about 10 minutes.

Akron improves to 9-2 in N-O action while Medina slips to 6-5.

The Tigers will host front-running Wilson and the Mustangs will visit Newfane at 6:30 p.m. Friday to close out the N-O campaign.

RBM icers bow in regular season finale

The Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina Knights Club hockey team made the trek to Olean Sunday evening to face the league- leading home team and fell 6-2 in the last game of the regular season.

After a scoreless first period, the hosts scored, but Clayton Wagner (Medina) tied the game from Ryan Felicetti (Wilson) and Nate Downey (RH).

Olean, however, scored three more times in the period taking a 4-1 lead into the third.

Blake Palumbo (Newfane) scored for RBM at the outset of the perod with assists going to Felicetti abd Gavin Ickowski (RH). That ended the scoring for RBM.

Season leaders for RBM were Wagner, John Peracciny (RH) and Felicetti for goals and Felicetti, Wagner and Sean Mettler (RH) for assists. Noah Orens (Newfane) played every minute in goal for the Knights.

Saturday, RBM travels to Jamestown for a first round playoff game beginning at 7 p.m.

Lady Tigers roll to Senior Night victory

Leading from wire to wire, Lyndonville rolled to a 52-26 Senior Night win over visiting Barker in a non league girls basketball game this evening.

Alexa Robinson scored 15, Isabella Groves 12 and Lilly Raduns 11 to lead Lyndonville as Hannah Fox added 6, Emily Dill 3, Braelynn Dillenbeck and Leah Kenyon 2 each and Annalee Clark 1.

Elise Monaco had a game high 17 to lead Barker as Charlotte Haag added 4, Hailey Dodge 2 and Kaylee Stoll 2.

Lyndonville led 15-5 at the end of the first quarter, 29-12 at the half and 28-18 at the three-quarter mark.

Groves scored 8 and Robinson 7 for Lyndonville in the first half while Monaco had 9 for Barker.

The Lady Tiger improve to 9-8.

Elba downed Kendall 59-47 in a Genesee Region League game as Brea Smith scored 20, Ava Borcek 15 and Brynn Stockhouse 12.

Mia Price scored 20 and Stella Kwiatek 11 for Kendall which trailed 37-21 at half-time.

Medina girls rally late to edge past Alden

Putting together a clutch fourth quarter scoring surge, Medina rallied to nip visiting Alden 48-47 in a non league girls basketball game this evening.

Trailing by 10, 43-33, at the end of the third quarter, Medina rallied to earn the narrow victory with a big 15-4 fourth period scoring run.

The Mustangs opened the decisive final period with an 11-0 run to rally into a 44-43 lead with three minutes remaining.

A run of seven straight points by Alexa Demmer on a three and two baskets ignited that rally. Tatianna Maxon followed up with a jumper and then Demmer scored on a layup off a steal for the go ahead basket.

Another layup off a steal by Samantha Heschke put Medina back up 46-45.

Alden took what proved to be its last lead at 47-46 on a basket by Kara Partell.

The last basket and the last lead change though belonged to Medina as Maxon hit a jumper with eight seconds remaining for the game winning basket and a 48-47 Mustangs lead.

Demmer finished with a game high 23 and Heschke 15 to lead Medina as Maxon had 8 and Harmoni Wilson 2.

Partell scored 13, Jillian Ulrich 12 and Anya Holzman and Abby White 9 each for Alden which is now 10-7.

Alden led 18-10 at the end of the first period and 32-23 at the half. Heschke scored 12 and Demmer 7 in the opening half for the Mustangs.

Medina, which improves to 8-9, next visits Akron for a Niagara-Orleans League game at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Final week will decide N-O basketball titles

The Niagara-Orleans League boys and girls basketball season will wrap up this coming week as Wilson looks to claim outright possession of both titles.

On the boys side, undefeated (10-0) Wilson has already clinched at least a tie for the title as the Lakemen hold a two game lead over runner-up Akron (8-2) with only two games remaining. Wilson will host surging Albion on Tuesday and then visit Akron on Friday. Albion brings a four game winning streak into that key contest.

On the girls side, defending champion Wilson is 9-1 and one game ahead of runner-up Akron (8-2). Wilson visits Albion on Tuesday and then hosts Akron on Friday.

The week’s basketball schedule will also be highlighted by Kendall’s induction of the Eagles 1975-76 undefeated Section V boys basketball championship team led by Roosevelt Bouie into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame.

Both the Section V and Section VI state wrestling qualifiers will be held this coming weekend. The Section V D2 qualifier will be held at Bath Haverling on Friday and Saturday. The Section VI qualifier will be held at SUNY Fredonia on Saturday and Sunday.

9 Tiger wrestlers advance to state qualifier

Nine Lyndonville wrestlers earned top six finishes at the Section V Class B3 Tournament held today at Perry to advance to next weekend’s Section V Division 2 state qualifier.

The Tigers had Bryson Hazel (103), Greyson Romano (165) and Ben Doolan (175) place second; Chanse Amsdill (132) and Brody Hazel (150) third; Izaiah Rodriguez (118) and Dom Hargrave (126) fourth and Justin Holmes (126) and Michael Alexander (144) fifth.

The state qualifier will be held next Friday and Saturday at Bath Haverling High School.

Barker girls nip Medina for first N-O victory

Snapping a season long 10 league game losing streak, Barker nipped visiting Medina 56-54 in a foul filled Niagara-Orleans girls basketball make-up game this afternoon.

The two teams combined for a whopping 59 free throw attempts.

Barker claimed that elusive first N-O win as Elise Monaco made two pressure free throws with seven seconds remaining to snap a 54-54 deadlock.

Trailing 54-51, the Lady Bulldogs had rallied into the tie after a basket by Monaco and a free throw by Hailey Dodge with 35 seconds remaining.

Monaco finished with a game high 26 points, including 12 of 14 from the free throw line, and Cheyanne Rouse scored 17, including three threes to lead the Lady Bulldogs.  Charlotte Haag added 5 and Dodge and Kaylee Stoll 4 each.

Tatianna Maxon scored 14 and Alexa Demmer 12, including 10 of 10 from the free throw line, to lead Medina as Caliyah St. Louis added 9, Emberlyn Oakes 7, Harmoni Wilson 6, Roswyn Oakes 4 and Autumn Cornelus 2.

Barker grabbed a slender 15-14 lead at the end of the first period as Monaco scored seven and Rouse and Dodge both hit threes in the early going.

Medina rallied into a narrow 33-30 lead at the half as Maxon scored 6, Demmer 4 and St. Louis hit a three.

Rouse had a big quarter for Barker scoring 10 points including two threes and a three-point play.

The Mustangs maintained a 44-40 lead at the three quarter mark as Demmer and Maxon both scored four in the third period. Monaco had six for the Lady Bulldogs.

Medina maintained a narrow 51-47 lead late in the decisive final period but Barker rallied back into a 51-51 tie with 1:40 remaining after baskets by Stoll and Rouse.

The Mustangs answered with one free throw by St. Louis and two by Wilson to regain the lead for what proved to be the last time at 54-51.

That set the stage for Barker’s decisive rally as a basket by Monaco and a free throw by Dodge knotted the score at 54-54 and Monaco followed up with the two game winning free throws.

Kendall rallies late to down Attica

Putting together a big fourth quarter scoring surge, Kendall rallied to down host Attica 59-50 in a Genesee Region League boys basketball game this evening.

Trailing 46-39 at the end of the third period, Kendall put together a big 20-4 fourth quarter scoring burst to claim the win.

Ryan Gaesser scored 15 on five threes and CJ D’Agostino and Vinnie D’Agostino both had 13 to lead the way for Kendall as Jonny Conte had 9 and Andrew D’Agostino 8.

For Attica, Owen Welch scored 15, Blake Kines 14 and Justin Stockweather 13.

Kendall led 34-27 at the half.

Byron-Bergen 66, Holley 52
Avante Walker scored 17, Josh Silpoch 16, Cam Mosier 9 and Cooper Wolf 7 for Holley in the 65-52 G-R loss to Byron-Bergen.

Elba 76, Lyndonville 37
Lane Woodworth and Colton Smith both scored 13, Atticus Mank 6, Devon Babcock 4, Leland Kabasta 3 and Lyric Raduns 1 for Lyndonvile in the 76-37 G-R loss to Elba.
