Wilson senior Ryan Hough scored a pair of victories at the state Class C track and field championships held over the weekend at Webster Schroeder near Rochester.

Hough won the Long Jump (23-4) and the High Jump (6-6).

He also placed second in the Triple Jump (47-8) and third in the 110 High Hurdles (:14.79).

Hough won all four events at the recent Section VI Class C championship meet.

Albion’s Sophia Wendt placed 13th in the Class B Triple Jump competition.

The Northshore Fury returned to Rochester over the weekend to compete against talent from Syracuse, Newark, Rome, Utica and Byron Bergen at the School’s Out Summer Jam Fest at Macedon.

After finishing with a 2-1 record in group play the Fury punched their ticket to the finals with a victory over Byron-Bergen 58-35 Sunday afternoon.

Led by top scorers Zia Dix (Medina), Gunner Knight (Holley), and Dean Fischer III (Medina) the team finished in 2nd after falling to the 315 Aces from Syracuse in the championship game. Dix scored a tournament high 22 points against Byron Bergen during their semi-final matchup.

Torry Dames (Medina), Julian Tabor (Medina), Chris Andrews (Holley), Brayden Aydelotte (Lyndonville), and Jackson Spencer (Holley) all added to the weekend’s scorers.

Mason McGuire (Holley), Tabor, Fischer, and Aydelotte led the team in rebounds and anchored the defense.

The Fury will finish their season this coming weekend June 20th and June 21st at the Father’s Day Showdown in Rochester, NY.

A four year varsity player during his scholastic days at Medina High, Zach Blount is now the scoring leader in the North America Box Lacrosse League.

Blount, who plays for the Utica Yeti in the 19 team league is currently the leader in all three offensive catagories.

He leads the league in goals with 16, assists with 10 and points with 26.

He has helped the Yeti open the season with a 3-2 record.

During his four year varsity career at Medina he had over 50 goals and 50 assists.

He went on to play collegiate lacrosse at Hilbert College.

Holley High varsity girls soccer coach Renee Wolf has received a special honor by being inducted into her alma mater Addison High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

A three sport athlete in soccer, basketball and softball at Addison, Wolf made her biggest impact in soccer.

“She truly made a lasting mark on the soccer field,”  it was said during her introduction. “Over an outstanding career, she helped lead Addison to two sectional championships, helped record 46 career shutouts, and finished with 71 wins, 20 goals and 23 assists. Along the way, she earned multiple All-Star honors and was named the Steuben County Division 1 Defensive MVP.”

The introduction  also pointed to her very successful career at Holley stating that “after graduation, her passion for sports and leadership continued into coaching, where she has earned more than 100 career victories and multiple league titles. In 2024 she guided her team to their first sectional championship in 30 years on the way to a state Final Four appearance. More importantly she has become a role model for countless student-athletes.”

Because of threatening bad weather today’s Niagara-Orleans League vs. Genesee Region League baseball game, which had been scheduled for 6 p.m. at Vets Park, has been postponed.

Medina Athletic Director Eric Valley stated that they are working on setting a new date for the game.

Medina will host the Niagara-Orleans League vs. Genesee Region League Senior baseball game at 6 p.m. Sunday at Vets Park.

A rash of stranded baserunners, including leaving the bases loaded twice, proved costly as Kendall dropped a 4-1 decision to Saratoga Catholic in the Class C state baseball tournament championship game this afternoon at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton.

Trailing 2-1, Kendal closed the gap to 2-1 in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Nic Cole which followed an error and a single by Sammy Conte.

However, the Eagles could not pull even as the bases were left loaded on an infield popup.

Then in the very next inning, Kendall again got the bases loaded with just one out after singles by CJ D’Agostino, Andrew Cole and Sammy Conte. Once again though the bases were left loaded on a flyout to right field and an infield out.

“The difference in the game was leaving baserunners on and a few base running errors,” said Kendall Coach Tige Noni. “You can’t win a state title by leaving a total of 9 runners on in the title game.”

Saratoga Catholic took the lead for good in the second inning on a two-run double by Kihl Kelley.

The Saints later added a pair of big insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an error and an RBI single by winning pitcher Pierce Byrne.

Byrne, who scattered 8 hits and struck out 10, allowed only one baserunner over the final two innings as he fanned 4 during that stretch.

Vinnie D’Agostino, who pitched himself out of trouble in several innings, went the distance on the mound for the Eagles giving up 12 hits and striking out 8. He registered clutch strikeouts to get out of trouble in the first, second and sixth innings. He also got a strikeout and a grounder back to the mound to end the fourth frame.

“Vinnie threw a great game. He kept us in it until the end,” said Noni. “This was an amazing season that came up short at the end. Not putting the ball in play in key situations was a huge momentum swing in Saratoga Catholic’s favor.”

Defensively, the Eagles turned a double play in the fifth frame from Jonny Conte at second to Nic Cole at first.

C.J. D’Agostino finished with 3 hits and Sammy Conte 2.

Kendall, which advanced to the title contest by downing Ticonderoga 12-2 in the semifinals on Friday, finishes the season at 24-3.

Unable to get the bats going, Medina dropped a 3-0 decision to Chester in the championship game of the state Class B baseball tournament this morning at Binghamton University.

Chester pitcher Aidan Francisco, a lefthander,  limited the Mustangs to only 4 hits while striking out 11.

“Not one single reason,” said Medina  Coach Chris Goyette of the Mustangs hitting drought. “We haven’t seen a lot of lefties this year which is part of it but in the end you have to tip your cap to the kid he threw a great game.”

Chester scored the only run they needed as it turned out in the first inning on three walks and a passed ball.

The Hambiltonians added insurance runs in the second inning on a walk and two singles and in the fifth on two walks and a ground out.

Medina’s best scoring chance came in the bottom of the seventh. Singles by Preston Woodworth and Hadrian Batista followed by a groundout gave the Mustangs runners at second and third with two out.

However, the Mustangs could not capitalize as Francisco notched a clutch game ending strikeout.

Medina’s only other hits were singles by Cam Fike in the fourth inning and Kolton Fletcher in the fifth.

Medina, which finishes the season at 22-3, advanced by blanking Utica Notre Dame 9-0 in the semifinals on Friday. Chester advanced by downing Center Moriches 5-2.
