Kendall, Albion to host soccer tournaments

Kendall and Albion will both host season opening soccer tournaments beginning on Thursday.

Kendall will host a boys tournament with Albion facing Holley and the host Eagles taking on Rochester Prep both at 5 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be held at 5 p.m. Friday.

Albion will host a girls tournament with Medina facing Alexander at 4:45 p.m. and the host Purple Eagles facing Pembroke at 6:45 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be held on Saturday.

The Holley girls will be competing in the Wheatlnd-Chili Tournament as the Lady Hawks will face Caledonia-Mumford in Thursday’s opening round.

The Medina boys squad will have a busy opening weekend as the Mustangs will visit Pembroke at 5 p.m. Friday and then host Cardinal O’Hara at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Lyndonville boys squad will have their home opener at 5 p.m. Thursday against Newfane.

The Lyndonville/Barker girls will open with a non league game at CSAT at 5 p.m. Friday.

Lady Tigers host volleyball opener Thursday

Veteran members of the Lady Tigers team include Olivia Belgiorno, Addison Dillenbeck, Elena Barry and Emma Freas. Missing are Madison Davis and Alyssa Prine. All are seniors except Barry who is a sophomore. Lyndonville will begin G-R competition at Wheatland-Chili on Monday.

Lady Rams down Ken West in soccer opener

Opening the season on a high note, Roy-Hart downed host Kenmore West 5-1 in a non league girls soccer game this afternoon.

Kaitlin Mettler scored 3 goals to lead the way for the Lady Rams as Kaylie Churchill and Allie Trombley both had 1.

Roy-Hart will open the Niagara-Orleans League season at defending champion Wilson on September 10.

N-O Golf
Roy-Hart opened N-O golf competition today with a forfeit win over Wilson which had only two players.

Isaac Smith shot a 49 and Evan Poeller and Tyler Rothwell both had rounds of 50 to lead the Rams.

Wilson’s Ben Meyers took medalist honors with a 46.

Albion golfers face busy opening week

The Purple Eagles will host Akron on Wednesday, Roy-Hart on Thursday and then visit Wilson on Friday. Leading the Purple Eagles will be this trio of veterans senior Oliver Beach, sophomore Drew Pritchard and eighth grader Viktor Snyder.

Rams soccer squad faces rebuilding task

Looking to fill the holes created by the loss of nine players to graduation, Roy-Hart will tune up for the Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer season by visiting Maryvale on Saturday.

New Roy-Hart Coach Jarrod Marsh’s, Rams squad, which will host defending champion Wilson in the N-O opener on September 10, is led by the veteran quartet of seniors Zach Schultz and Josiah Rodriguez along with juniors Garrett Glyshaw and Jase Waters.

The Rams graduation losses included first team N-O All-League honorees Rem Albee (Midfield), Landen Guild (Midfield), Caleb Verratti (Defense) and second team selection Jayden Swygert (Defense) along with Noah Bartholomew (Goalie), Dawson Draper (Defense), Joel Hickman (Forward), Jack Johnson (Forward) and Kristopher Myers (Defense).

Roy-Hart went 5-5 in N-O action and 6-8-1 overall last fall.

Lady Rams return large veteran group

With the entire lineup returning nearly intact, Roy-Hart is looking to improve upon last fall’s 5-7 Niagara-Orleans League field hockey record.

In all the Lady Rams return a large veteran contingent of 13 including seniors Olivia Marsillo, Lily Beal, Ava Achtyl and Abigail Glyshaw; juniors Alayna Kowalski, Violette Streckewald, Casondra Sanney, Dillan Santella and Brooke Zglinicki; sophomores Miley Reiter, Mackenzie Landers, Adella Dukes and Savannah Newton and eighth grader Bella Rhinehart.

Dukes was a second team N-O All-League honoree while Marsillo, Zglinicki and Newton all received Honorable Mention.

The Rady Rams will host Sacred Heart at 4:45 p.m. Thursday in preparation for the N-O home opener against Wilson at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Tourney will be N-O tune up for Mustangs

Medina will face Alexander and Albion will take on Pembroke in Thursday’s opening round contest. The consolation and championship games will be Saturday.

Anchoring the Mustangs lineup will be the veteran group of seniors Madelyn Lewis, Cameron Davis, Honesty Hill and Taylor Schrader along with juniors Lyla Page, Aurora Owczarczak and Rhoswyn Oakes.

Medina, which went 0-10 in N-O action last fall, will begin the league schedule at Newfane on September 10.

Youthful Lady Bulldogs face key N-O opener

The accent is on youth for the Barker varsity field hockey squad which faces a challenging Niagara-Orleans League season opener at defending champion Akron on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Senior Madilyn Detschner (Defense) and junior Madelina Pavlock (Attack/Midfield), who both earned first team N-O All-League honors, and junior Kaylee Stoll (Defense), who was an Honorable Mention selection, head the Lady Bulldogs veteran group which includes only three seniors.

The Lady Bulldogs returning regulars also include seniors Elizabeth Samson (Defense) and Ella Taylor (Attack) along with junior Hailey Dodge (Midfield) as freshman Adeline Atwater looks to handle the goaltending duties.

“We’re still young,” said Coach Karin Menz. “We have a lot of young players so our focus is on developing out skills. Improving our skill level will be key especially going on turf.”

Barker’s graduation losses included second team N-O All-League honorees Macie May (Attack/Midfield) and Addison Szafranski (Midfield) along with Rachel Sutter (Attack) and Cole Carnes (Attack).

Barker finished in a tie for second place with Medina at 9-3 last fall behind undefeated (12-0) Akron. Over the past two decades either Akron or Barker has won or shared the N-O title.

Akron is led by a group of seven players who earned spots on the N-O All-League squad. They include first team honorees juniors Marissa Brege and Morgan Tomporowski, second team selections seniors Ava Fox and Julia Klodzinski and sophomore Madigan Regan and Honorable Mention picks sophomores Madison Gates and Alexis Salmon.

Rams Wall of Fame to induct five on Sept. 19

Roy-Hart will be inducting five new members into the Proud To Be RAM Wall of Fame on Thursday September 19th prior to the 7 p.m. Homecoming football game vs Newfane at Bruno Pacini Field

The new inductees include Jon Corser (Class of 1969), Sid Silsby (Class of 1969), Dorothy Keirn (Class of 1979), Michelle Wroblewski (Class of 1979) and Roger W. Grove, an Honorary Member who was the Founder of the Rams Mascot for the Royalton-Hartland School District.

Green ties in Curtis Cup singles match

Medina’s Melanie Green tied in her singles match today to earn a half point to Team USA in the closing round of competition at the Curtis Cup being played at Sunningdale, England.

Green, who was three up after 7 holes and two up after 10 had to win the final hole to halve her match with Mimi Rhodes of the Great Britain/Ireland Team.

Making her debut in Curtis Cup competition, Green had a win, a loss and two ties in her four rounds over the three days of the tournament.

Great Britain/Ireland edged Team USA 10 1/2 – 9 1/2 to win the Curtis Cup.

Green will next be attending the Stage 2 tournament of  the Qualifying School next month at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice Florida as she tries to earn her card to turn professional and compete on the LPGA tour.
