Unable to keep the momentum from a fast start, Medina’s Melanie Green carded a 2 over par 74 on today’s second round of the LPGA Tour’s Scottish Open.

The 74 gave her a two day total of 9 over par 153 which missed the cut line of 6 over.

Green, who started the day at 7 over after Thursday’s 79, quickly improved to 4 over after registering birdies on 3, 5 and 7.

However, those gains were quickly erased by bogeys on 8, 9 and 12 which put her back to 7 over.

Green’s hopes of making it to the weekend were then dashed by a disastrous triple bogey on 15 which ballooned her tourney total to 10 over.

She did finish on a positive note though with a birdie on 17 for a 2 over round of 74 and a two day total of 9 over 153.

The Village of Albion Recreation Department will be sponsoring a free Tennis Camp at the Albion Central School’s tennis courts next week (July 27-31) from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. each day.

Players do not need tennis experience to join this free summer event. Tennis balls will be provided. Players are encouraged to bring their own tennis racquet. However if you do not have your own racquet one may be provided.

There is no pre-registration for this camp. Walk up registration will be at the beginning of the camp. An adult does not need to be at registration but encouraged.

Basic tennis skills will be taught to the beginners along with tennis drills and low level tennis competitive match situations. Scoring, rule and regulations will be taught along with tennis strategies.

Experienced tennis players will have an opportunity to drill and play matches throughout the two weeks.

This camp is for beginners to advanced tennis players of all ages.

The Tennis Camp will be postponed on any day related to bad weather.

Completing a home and home season series sweep, the Cobras FC downed Holley 6-1 Wednesday evening to close out the Rochester District Youth Soccer League girls U18 Division season.

Holley, whose only two losses were to the Cobras, finishes at 8-2.

Veronica Flow scored the Holley goal off an assist from Hannah Dill.

A rash of bogeys proved costly as Medina’s Melanie Green carded a 7 over par 79 today in the opening round of the LPGA Tour’s Scottish Open.

Green had seven bogeys, a double bogey and only two birdies on the day.

Beginning on the back nine, she had bogeys on 11, 14, 16, 17, 3, 6 and 7 as well as a double bogey on 13. Her birdies came on 2 and 9.

The tournament will continue on Friday after which the field will be cut for the weekend’s two title deciding rounds.

Rebounding from an early three run deficit, Albion came storming back to capture the GLOW Baseball League 14U Division playoff championship by downing Cal-Mum 12-5 this evening at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia.

Trailing 4-1, Albion rallied into the lead for good by scoring 4 times in the fourth inning on RBI doubles by Blake Brown and Lukas Snyder along with RBI singles by Brody Furness and Evan Coots. A single by Giovanni LaMartia ignited that uprising.

Albion upped the advantage to 7-4 with a pair of runs in the fifth frame on two errors which followed singles by Bryce Saxton and Hudson Armer.

Albion then put a lock on the championship by erupting for five runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Brycen Potter, RBI singles by Coots and Kyler Bennett, a bases loaded walk and a steal of home.

Coots, DiMatteo, Saxton and Armer each finished with a pair of hits as Albion pounded out a total of 14 base raps to complete an undefeated (9-0) season.

Snyder was named the MVP and Coots earned the Sportsmanship Award.

Medina/Lyndonville United dropped a narrow 3-2 decision at West Seneca in a Buffalo District Youth Soccer League boys U16 Division game Tuesday evening.

Garrett Jones scored both goals for Medina/Lyndonville with one coming on a penalty kick.

Medina goalie Steven Gobeli made two big saves on West Seneca peanlty kick opportunities.

Maddox Smith also played a strong game at midfield for Medina/Lyndonville as did Bradley Goyette both on offense and defense.

Now at 4-3-1, Medina Lyndonville next hosts Clarence next Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at Vets Park.

White Birch trimmed Parkitects 18-17 and Jr. Wilson downed Mr, Septic 19-12 in Medina Women’s Softball League action Monday evening.

White Birch 18, Parkitects 17
Despite having one less hit than Parkitects, White Birch won the game 18-17 on a walk off double by Mallory Albone to pull ahead and win the game.

Going into the 7th inning, White Birch was down 17-15. Kenzie Muck started the inning with a single, followed by a single by Rebekah Hoffee and a single by Stacy Buckland. The next batter struck out and the following batter popped out to left field. Albone got up and hit a double to score the tying and the winning runs that brought Buckland across home plate.

It was an incredible hitting game by both teams as the Birch had 24 hits and Parkitects had 25.

Other hits from the Birch included a double and two singles by Aubrey Lewis. Maddy Boyle had a double and two singles, Morgan Ralph a triple, double and single and Anna Lewis three singles. Kenzie Muck finished with four singles, Rebekah Hoffee and Stacy Buckland each had two singles, Dana Cotriss a single and Albone two singles and that incredible walk off double.

Parkitects power hitters included Alishia Foss who went 4-4 with a triple, two doubles and a single. KB Ball also went 4-4 with two triples, a double and a single.

The Birch is now 6-2 with one rain date to make up against Banes before playoffs begin next week.

Jr. Wilson 19, Mr. Septic 12
Scoring in every inning but one, Jr. Wilson beat Mr. Septic 19-12 .

Jr. Wilson scored three runs in the first on singles from Sara Flansburg and Jodi Zacher, followed by a home run from Stormi Beach. They scored two more in the 2nd on a walk and singles from Jess Kassman, Jenn Thom, and Sharon Korzelius.

Breaking it open in the third, Jr. Wilson scored 7 runs when Alyssa Ramarge started a 2 out rally by hitting a home run, followed by a combination of walks and singles from Jaclyn Rodriquez, Bri Guzdek, and Korzelius.

Mr. Septic scored four in the 4th on a double from Randi Tower, single by Cathy Schmitt, and home runs from Emily Kams and Ashlee Salisbury. Mr. Septic put the pressure on by scoring eight more runs in the 6th, with home runs coming from Lindsay Ward and Salisbury, along with hits from Schmitt, Cami London, Audrey Vaglica, Roberta Conn, and Erika Vorhees.

In the sixth, Jr. Wilson tacked on five more runs to pull away for good, scoring on a home run from Flansburg, and hits from Penny Roath, Ramarge, Rodriquez, Connie Hornquist, and Thom. Rodriquez also had a two-run home run in the fourth for Junior Wilson.

Flansburg, Ramarge, Rodriquez, Guzdek, and Thom all finished with 3 hits for Junior Wilson, while Schmitt, Salisbury, London, and Vorhees each had two hits for Mr. Septic.

Coming up big in the clutch, the Medina Mustangs FC earned a 2-2 tie with front-running Buffalo Italia FC Monday evening at Vets Park to clinch a spot in the up coming Buffalo District Soccer League Championship Division playoffs.

Scoring the goals for Medina were Peter Martillotta on a free kick and Greg Husung off an assist from Cole Callard.

Earning a big point for the tie, Medina finishes the regular season with a 4-4-2 record good for 14 points and a spot in the playoffs.

Medina has posted a 4-1-2 record over the last seven games after opening the season at 0-3 when the Mustangs were short handed.

The tie is the first blemish on the regular season record for champion Buffalo Italia FC which will take a 9-0-1 record into the playoffs.

Improving to 8-0, Albion bested Dansville 8-4 in the semifinal round of the GLOW League 14U Division baseball playoffs this evening.

Albion will now face the winner of the Alden vs. Cal-Mum semi in the championship game on Wednesday.

Albion took the lead for good with a quick first inning run as Brody Furness walked, stole second and third and came home on an error.

The lead jumped to 4-0 in the third inning as fielders choice plays off the bats of Kyler Bennett and Giovanni LaMartina and a ground out off the bat of Bryce Saxton. Lukas Snyder ignited the uprising with a single.

Albion added solo runs in the fourth inning on a steal of home by Robert Hickman and in the fifth on a groundout off the bat of Hudson Armer. Singles by Snyder and Bennett set up that threat.

Dansville did cut the deficit to 6-4 by scoring three runs with two outs in the top of the sixth on two wild pitches and an error but could get no closer.

Albion answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Ethan Olles and Blake Brown to close out the win.

Defensively, Hickman turned an unassisted double play at first base in the second inning.

Brycen Potter earned the win on the mound allowing 2 hits and striking out 8 in 5 innings of work.

Avenging an earlier season loss, the Central Amherst Orange nipped the Medina 15U team 1-0 this afternoon to close out the Mustangs participation in the Cooperstown Tournament.

Central Amherst, which recently lost 11-6 to Medina, scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a hit batter, a stolen base and a single.

Medina had only three hits including singles by Jacob Duffina, Mason Berry and Shawn Robertson,

On the mound for the Mustangs Duffina pitched a 2 hitter with 7 strikeouts.

Medina next hosts Lockport at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
