Hampered by a pair of bogeys on the back nine, Medina’s Melanie Green posted a 1 over par 73 today on the third round of the LPGA Tour’s Standard Portland Classic at Portland, Oregon.

Green began the day at 4 under for the tournament and improved that to 5 under with a birdie on 9.

However, bogeys on 11 and 16 wiped out that gain and dropped her back to 3 under for the tournament with a three day total score of 213.

Green opened the tourney on Thursday with a 1 under par round of 71 and improved to a 3 under par round of 69 on Friday to take a 4 under par total into today’s round.

She finished her round 10 shots back of the leader at 13 under with some of the field still on the course.

Successfully making the cut, Medina’s Melanie Green carded a 3 under par round of 69 today at the LPGA Tour’s Standard Portland Classic at Portland, Oregon.

Green now has a two day total of 4 under par 140 after posting a 1 under par round of 71 on Thursday to open the tournament.

Beginning the day on the front nine, she notched four birdies on 5, 7, 8 and later on 12 to go as much a 5 under. However, her lone bogey of the day on 15 ended up leaving her at 3 under for the day and 4 under for the tourney.

Interestingly, 6 of the 8 birdies she has made over the first two days have come on the front 9.

She is currently 8 shots back of the leader who is at 12 under with some golfers still on the course.

The tournament will continue on Saturday and then conclude on Sunday.

This is the first LPGA Tournament of the season for Green who has been playing full time on the Epson Pro Tour. She currently leads the Epson Tour in points and has already locked up an LPGA Tour Card for 2026.

She earned a spot in the Portland Classic  field by winning a qualifying tournament on Monday by posting an 8 under par round of 64 to win by three shots.

Coming on strong over the final 9 holes, Medina’s Melanie Green posted a 1 under par 71 today in the opening round of the LPGA Standard Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon.

Two over par after her first nine holes on the back nine, Green came rallying back to register three birdies on the front line to earn the 1 under par round.

During that key stretch she birdied 1, 3 and 7.

Opening the tourney on the back nine, she notched a birdie on 12 to offset a bogey on 11 but then had a double bogey on 15 to go 2 over par.

However, she rallied to erase that deficit with 3 clutch front nine birdies to finish the day at 1 under par.

The tourney’s second round will be Friday after which the field will be cut heading into the title deciding final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday.

The LPGA tourney is the first of the year for Green who currently holds the lead in points on the Epson Tour and has already locked up an LPGA Tour Card for 2026.

Having earned both league and sectional championships Medina and Kendall have now both placed multiple players on the All State baseball squad which  was announced this week by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Medina, which captured both the Niagara-Orleans League and Section VI Class B championships is represented on the Class B All State team by the trio of pitchers Brody Fry and Preston Woodworth and shortstop Aidan Papaj.

Fry was named to the Class B first team, Papaj the second team and Woodworth the fourth team.

Fry posted a 9-1 record on the mound with 108 strikeouts and a 0.33 earned run average.

Woodworth went 10-0 with 100 strikeouts and a 0.45 era.

At the plate, Papaj hit .394 with 4 doubles, 2 triples 1 home run and 21 RBIs. Fry hit .304 with 6 doubles, 1 triple and 23 RBIS. Woodworth hit .297 with 9 double, 1 triple, 1 home run and 33 RBIs.

Kendall, which claimed both the Genesee Region League and Section V Class C titles, has placed the battery of catcher Colby Hughes and pitcher Gavin Braun on the Class C All State team.

Hughes was named to the Class C second team and Braun to the third team.

Hughes hit .559 with 11 doubles and defensively threw out 31 percent of the runners who tried to steal on him.

Braun registered 61 strikeouts and had a 1.24 earned run average.

Fry, Hughes and Braun were all seniors this past spring while Woodworth and Papaj were sophomores.

Taking a break from the Epson Tour, Medina’s Melanie Green has qualified for this week’s LPGA Standard Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon.

Green earned a spot in the Portland LPGA Tournament field by winning a qualifying tournament on Monday.

She fired a sizzling 8 under par round of 64 to win the qualifier by 3 strokes.

The four day 72 hole Standard Portland Classic begins Thursday and concludes on Sunday with the field being cut after Friday’s round.

Green, who currently leads the Epson Tour point standings, has already secured enough points to earn an LPGA Tour Card for the 2026 season.

To date she has 8 top 10 finishes on the Epson Tour including a tournament victory and three second place finishes.

Teams from a dozen area communities will be competing as the Niagara Orleans Football Association kicks off its season this Saturday.

The youth football league’s lineup includes Albion, Lyndonville, Holley, Roy-Hart/Barker, Akron, Newfane, Batavia, Oakfield-Alabama/Elba, LeRoy, Attica, Pembroke and Tri-Town.

Albion will host LeRoy and Lyndonville will entertain Attica on Saturday with games at 11 a.m. (Beginner Division), 1 p.m. (Mini Division) and 3 p.m. (JV Division).

Saturday’s other opening day matchups will have Akron vs. Roy-Hart/Barker at Barker, Holley at Newfane, Oakfield-Alabama/Elba at Batavia and Tri-Town at Pembroke.

The league’s 8 week regular season will conclude on October 11 with the playoff semifinals on Oct. 18 and the finals on Oct. 25.
