Local schools earn state academic awards
Two local schools, Barker and Wilson, have received School of Distinction Awards from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association for having all of their varsity teams earn Scholar/Athlete Team Awards during this past school year.
In addition, four local schools, Medina, Roy-Hart, Newfane and Lyndonville, have received School of Excellence Awards for having at least 75 percent of their varsity teams earn Scholar/Athlete Team Awards.
A team must achieve a composite academic average of at least 90 in order to receive a Scholar/Athlete Award.
Wilson had all 20 of its varsity teams and Barker all 11 of its teams earn scholar/athlete awards to earn School of Distinction honors.
Medina had 18 teams, Newfane 16, Roy-Hart 13,and Lyndonville 9 earn Scholar/Athlete Awards to earn the School of Excellence awards.
