Local players earn All-State football honors

A quartet of local players have earned spots on the All-State Class B football squad.

B East Division champion Medina/Lyndonville has placed senior linebacker Dawson Joy on the second team, junior all purpose player Jalin Cooper on the third team and senior lineman Tyler Howard on the fourth team.

Albion is represented by senior running back Tommy Mattison on the third team.

Joy made 78 tackles on the season and also had 4 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries and Howard 79 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

Cooper had 1,213 all purpose yards and 16 touchdowns. The versatile receiver had 403 yards rushing with 7 touchdowns, 339 yards receiving with 6 TDs, 247 yards in kickoff returns and 224 yards in punt returns.

Mattison led the Purple Eagles with 1,086 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns.

The Class C All-State team included Akron offensive lineman Austin Ladd on the first team and linebacker Jake Sarow on the second team while Wilson placed quarterback Justin Daul on the third team.
