Local law enforcement agencies will have increased patrols as part of a STOP-DWI St. Patrick’s Day High Visibility Campaign.

The campaign started Thursday and continues through Sunday.

“Gathering with family and friends, enjoying food, beverages and wearing of the green during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations could all too often turn tragic on the nation’s roads, said Orleans County Sheriff Chris Bourke, the county’s STOP-DWI coordinator. “The fact is this celebration is considered one of the deadliest holidays of the year due to impaired-driving crashes.”

Bourke said law enforcement agencies from throughout the state will have increased patrols to reduce the number of impaired driving-related injuries and deaths.
