Local hurlers earn first collegiate wins

Two local pitchers, Albion graduate Jason Downs and Medina grad Jason Hellwig, recently earned their first collegiate victories on the mound.
Downs, a freshman at California University of Pennsylvania, gains his first win by pitching the final two and one-third innings in a 12-9 victory over Pitt-Johnston. He allowed no hits and struck out one.
Hellwig, a sophomore at SUNY Brockport, likewise earned his milestone first win in relief pitching the final two innings of a 6-4 victory over Plattsburgh.
Hellwig, a Sports Management major, added his second win this Wednesday pitching five and one-third innings in a 7-3 victory over Ithaca.
