Local grapplers earn G-R All-Star honors

Photo by Mike Wertman – Several area wrestlers have earned Genesee Region League All-Star honors this season. Four Holley and four Lyndonville wrestlers have been named to the Genesee Region League All-Star squad.

Holley is represented by senior Kevin Avery (152), juniors Martin Beadle (138) and Lucas Silvis (220) and sophomore Nick Shenck (120).

Lyndonville has placed the underclassmen quartet of junior Tony Recco (113), sophomore Tom Follman (152) and freshmen Jeff Gress Jr. (99) and Dustin Joy (138).

Kendall is represented by senior Mason ReQua (145).

Avery, Beadle and Recco are all repeat honorees.

Avery, who went 41-8 on the season, placed second at the Section V Class BB Tournament and fourth at the Section V state qualifier.

Beadle, who placed third at the BB tourney and fourth at the state qualifier, posted a 46-4 record.

Silvis, who went 39-10 on the season, placed fourth at the BB tourney and Shenck, who placed third at the BB tournament, had a 35-12 record.

Recco, who captured Class B and Section V state qualifier titles and went on to place third at the state championship, compiled a 48-4 season record.

Dustin Joy, who went 33-15 on the season, also won a Class B title.

Gress, who placed second at the Class B tourney and fifth at the Section V state qualifier, went 39-8 on the season.

Follman, who went 40-11, placed third at Class B and sixth at the state qualifier.

ReQua, who finished third at the Class B tournament, posted a 37-7 record.
